May is one of our busiest and most meaningful months in #MVNation as the end of our 2024 school year is wrapping up. Every student in Meramec Valley is nearing amazing academic milestones and achievements, from kindergarten graduation to our senior class of 2024 walking across the stage on May 19th. This month our PHS Baseball Team and PHS Girls Track and Field Team were crowned Four Rivers Conference Champions, Riverbend Middle School had an outstanding Skills Day, and for the second year in a row Pacific Intermediate student, Daisy Fearn won the East Central College Regional Spelling Bee! We are so proud of the hard work and accomplishments of all of our students and staff at the culmination of another wonderful school year.

As we near the end of this school year, many of our departments are already in next-year planning mode. Our district facilities team are finalizing bids and plans to expand the MVR-III transportation entrance at Nike Elementary this July. Remaining 2021 Prop-1 bond funds are being utilized to repave the transportation parking lot and road leading to our bus fleet, while creating a new dedicated bus entrance onto Nike Base Road. This Prop-1 project will allow for a safer more efficient route for our buses and Nike Elementary traffic. We again, thank our families and community for their unwavering support of our students, staff, and schools as we work together to do what's best for kids!

Leading the Way with the 8 Pillars of Success Leading the Way with the 8 Pillars of Success

Pillar of the Month is Resilience

Each month, we celebrate students across the district who exemplify the Pillar of the Month. We believe that instilling strong character values in our students is key to shaping responsible and compassionate individuals who will positively impact the world. This month we will focus on providing students with opportunities to be resilient. Five tips to building resilience—the ability to adapt well to adversity or sources of stress.

  1. Make connections - It’s also important to build a strong family network. Connecting with others provides social support and strengthens resilience.
  2. Help your student by having them help others - Engage your child(ren) in age-appropriate volunteer work or ask for assistance yourself with tasks that they can master.
  3. Look for opportunities for self-discovery - Tough times are often when children learn the most about themselves.
  4. Move toward your goals - Teach your child to set reasonable goals and help them to move toward them one step at a time.
  5. Accept change - Help your child see that change is part of life and new goals can replace goals that have become unattainable.

Ask your child how they can be resilient at home, school, and in the community.

Help Prevent a Measles Outbreak

The Department of Health and Senior Services is seeking public assistance with communicating information regarding the measles. As of March 21, 2024, there are 64 confirmed measles cases in the U.S., compared to 58 total cases reported for the entire year of 2023. Among the cases reported in 2024, over 90 percent were linked to international travel and most have been among children aged 12 months and older who had not received the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.

Measles is a highly contagious and potentially serious viral illness. The virus spreads through coughing and sneezing and can live for up to two hours in an airspace after an infected person leaves an area. A person can spread measles without knowing they are infected.

The measles vaccine, given as part of the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine, is extremely effective, giving those vaccinated with just one dose 93 percent protection against measles infection. Both doses of the vaccine provide individuals with a 97 percent protection rate throughout their lifetime.

Families needing assistance with vaccines may contact the Franklin County Health Department.
