Message from Ms. Batista
Dear Rock View Families,
Thank you to everyone who participated in our PTA Read-A-Thon fundraiser! Your enthusiasm, generosity, and encouragement helped make this fundraiser a wonderful celebration of reading and community spirit. We are so proud of our students for diving into books and sharing their love of reading!
Next week, on Tuesday, we’ll be hosting our Rock View Open House. Please see the flyer for times. We look forward to opening our doors to families and giving you the opportunity to see our students in action!
We are also excited to share that the Maryland Report Card results are out! Rock View Elementary earned 3 stars on the 2024 Maryland School Report Card, showing notable growth from the previous year. Our overall performance score increased from 50.8% in 2023-2024 to 57.4% in 2024-2025, reflecting steady progress in academic achievement, school climate, and student engagement. This improvement demonstrates the dedication of our staff, students, and families to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment where every child can succeed.
Maryland schools are rated on a five-star system, with scores based on multiple measures including academic progress, student attendance, access to a well-rounded curriculum, and school climate. Our 3-star rating and year-over-year growth reflect that Rock View is moving in the right direction, and we will continue to build on this momentum together.
Thank you for your continued partnership—because at Rock View, “The View is Better from Here!”
Warm regards,
Kilsys Batista

Math in Motion!
Our compacted math students have been tackling one-step division problems with larger divisors—and they’re loving it! Using a visible thinking strategy, they identified what they knew for sure and what they needed to find out, then explained each step of their problem-solving process using precise academic language. Fourth graders even created their own word problems and solved them with standard form equations.
Students showcased critical thinking, teamwork, and curiosity—asking great questions, taking risks, and sharing ideas with confidence. The energy in the room was electric, and our Roadrunners’ enthusiasm for learning was impossible to miss! 💙💛
Parents, you can join the fun at home: ask your child to explain a recent math problem they solved, what they knew, what they were trying to figure out, and how they solved it. It’s a great way to keep the excitement going and support their critical thinking!
Volunteers Make a Difference
MCPS welcomes volunteers! Our schools are stronger because parents, caregivers, and community members step in to help. Whether it’s chaperoning a trip, coaching, or lending a hand in the classroom, volunteers make a real difference for kids. At the same time, nothing matters more than keeping every child safe. That’s why we require all volunteers to complete the required training—and some volunteers must also complete a fingerprinted background check, including:
Volunteer coaches
Grade 6 Outdoor Education
Overnight or extended day field trip chaperones (returning after 7:00 p.m. or out-of-area/state)
Volunteers working 1:1 with students unsupervised

Counselor Updates
Hello Rock View families!
We had a wonderful time in October kicking off this year's character education. Students learned about mindfulness, and we will be celebrating some of our mindful students at our first Character Education Celebration on November 7. Throughout November students will learn about perseverance. We will also spend the first week of November participating in Mental Health Awareness Week and having themed events each day to remind us all how important it is to take care of our brains just like we do our bodies.
As we approach the holiday season, we know some families may be in need of food support. If your family is in need of assistance with food or other resources, please contact one of the counselors or our Family Engagement Specialist, Maria Romero.
