Welcome Back Jackrabbits Learning Community
This weekend we remember the life and legacy of our Jackrabbits Grandpa, Col. Ben Narbuth. Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this beloved pillar of our Horizon City community. Col. Ben Narbuth played an intricle role with a passion of the Terrific Kids program and now All Stars in Socorro ISD. He will always be remembered with his message of compassion and love for those needing advocacy and encouragement.
Thanks to all our parents for helping us ease into a new school year once again. We understand that first days of school for students and parents can be a challenge. This year we welcome scholars from our neighboring campuses within #TeamSISD. It's exciting to begin an new year with over 900 plus and quickly growing number of students.
In addition, our faculty and staff pass the 100 mark. I'm both humbled and honored to serve as your campus leader. This all possible due to the hard work and dedication to our teachers, custodial and support staff. Our instructional leadership team is always ready to assist as we gear up for another successful school year.
Attendance and tardies will be closely monitored this year. I need parent support and understanding in getting students prepared for daily instruction. Scholars will be receiving lunch detention after three (3) tardies. Reminder that congested traffic will be heavier this year with the opening of Eastlake Middle School. Let's plan accordingly.
NEW: This year, district policy indicates parents/guardians have 72 hours to submit excuse notes justifying child's absence.
Thank you for entrusting our team with serving your child(ren).
At your service,
Fernando L. Miranda
School Principal

Important information from School Nurse Tarango
Dear Parent or Guardians
As your School Nurse, I would like to welcome you to a new school year. I will try to provide the best health services for your child.
These services will include health screenings and referrals for screenings such as vision and hearing, emergency illness, injury care, health education and promotion.
There are times that I will send a notification letter that your child was seen at the nurse office, this letter is always password protected, and you will always receive password in a separate email if letter is sent. Please be aware that notifications are sent depending on grade level and severity of injury.
If your child is not compliant with vaccines, you will also be notified via email of missing vaccines.
The following are answers to some commonly asked questions:
When should I keep my child home due to an illness?
My suggestions are...
- Do not send your child with a fever over 100.0 in the past 24 hours. Always be in communication with attendance in case child is absent. Child must be 24 hours fever free before returning to school without the use of fever reducing medication such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (Ibuprofen)
- Do not send your child with diarrhea or vomiting.
- Do not send your child with an infection that has discharge such as pink eye or impetigo (skin infection) without a doctor's note. In the case that pink eye cannot be ruled out, pick up will be required and student may return with a doctor's note or until redness and discharge improve.
- If your child is borderline sick they may try to go to school if there is no fever in the last 24 hours. Please be available for pick up if students' condition worsens or cannot make it through the day.
What if my child can attend school, but should not participate in physical activity?
A parent may excuse his/her child from physical activity with a written note for up to 3 days. If a child requires an excuse for a longer period of time, a note from a doctor is needed. When a child is excused from PE, he/she is not allowed to play during recess.
What if my child requires medication during school?
- All medications must be in the original container.
- All medication must have a written note by a physician licensed in Texas.
- All medication requires a written consent from the parent for nurse to administer medication.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Tarango, BSN, RN
