Winter Party Information Winter Party Information

When is the Winter Party?

  • Friday, December 19, 2025
  • 9:30-10:30 a.m.

When can visitors arrive at SCE to begin raptoring?

  • 9:15 a.m.

When will visitors be allowed down to the classrooms?

  • 9:30 a.m.

What will visitors need to enter the building?

  • Valid ID
  • All visitors must be run through the Raptor System

How will SCE Streamline the sign in process?

  • Visitors can pre-register using this link. Pre-registered visitors will need to show ID when arriving and their Raptor Sticker will already be printed. This form will close, Wednesday, December 17 at 9:00 a.m.
  • If not pre-registered, visitors will have to wait in line until their ID can be run through the Raptor System. We only have two scanners, please plan for the line to be long. No one will be let down to a classroom until successfully screened through the Raptor System. This means you may not be scanned by the start time of the party.
  • We highly suggest the pre-register option.

Will we be allowed to sign out students at the end of the day?

  • Teachers will not dismiss students with families from the party. Students can only be dismissed from the office.
  • All time out of class counts against the student's attendance.
  • If you wish to sign your child out (highly discourage this), you will need to come to the main office and wait in the line outside of the office.
  • If doing this, please make sure you have the Focus App and your child's barcode ready for sign out.

May we bring food/drinks to the Winter Party?

  • No.

From Mrs. Menier

After the Thanksgiving break, you may notice a shift in the artwork your student brings home! The early weeks of the year were dedicated to our Art Skills Bootcamp, where students mastered new concepts, materials, and grade-level techniques through structured, teacher-directed projects. We are now excited to announce the opening of our choice art studios for Grades 1–5! With this transition, students will now move toward student-directed learning. This means they choose their subject matter within a given theme, select their own materials, and apply techniques they've learned to create their artwork. This process is much more reflective of how professional artists work. As a result, the pieces coming home will be more authentic to your child's individual interests and skill level, offering a genuine glimpse into their unique artistic voice!

The best way to hear that voice is to talk with your child about the artwork they are bringing home. To help your student keep exploring and stretching their skills, try changing the way you talk about their creations. Instead of just focusing on if it's "good," ask them open-ended questions that encourage them to explain their work:

  • Ask about the How and Why: "What was the first thing you decided to draw?" or "Why did you choose that technique or material for this part?" This shows you care about their process and the choices they made.

  • Let Them Be the Judge: Ask them to point out the part they like best or what they are most proud of. This teaches them how to self-assess their work, which is a key skill for professional artists.

  • Discover Their Meaning: Ask, "What story does this picture tell?" or "What feeling were you trying to express?" This helps you see what concepts they've been learning in art class and what ideas mean the most to them. And keep s you from having that akward conversation where you call it a giraffe, when it's really a dinosaur.

These conversations make art about more than just a picture; they show your child that you value their ideas, effort, and unique perspective!

Happy Holidays Happy Holidays
