West Bend School District Hosts Amazing Cultural Event: Violins of Hope
We are excited to be the only school district to take part in the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Violins of Hope exhibit on the Holocaust.
A special event on Thursday, January 8 will feature a display of some of the restored instruments owned and played by Jewish musicians and others targeted by the Nazis before and during the Holocaust. The instruments were played by Jewish musicians in ghettos and concentration camps and each one is a symbol of resilience, courage, and survival.
Thank you to the West Bend Public Schools Foundation for its support in making this special event happen in West Bend. Join us on Thursday, January 8 for the instrument display and a remembrance concert by the talented students from the West Bend High School’s orchestra, band, and choirs. In addition, students will display their art of remembrance. Get a free ticket at https://bit.ly/4auyx4i.
Date and Time: Thursday, January 8. Exhibit: 5-8:30 p.m. and concert: 7:30 p.m.
Location: West Bend High Schools Silver Lining Art Center, 1305 E. Decorah Road, West Bend

WBSD Funding: Details of WBSD Portion of Property Tax Bills
We have developed a new feature called WBSD Funding, meant to provide further detail on the factors that affect our budgets and your tax bill, including mill rate, revenue limit, state aid, and more. It also includes a detailed explanation of how to understand the different parts of your property tax bill. Check out the new feature at WBSDFunding.org
Across the state of Wisconsin, most property owners are seeing higher tax bills this year. WBSD Funding provides details on why this trend is taking place. The state budget, approved in July 2025, included the unusual decision for the state to provide no increase in funding for K-12 education aid, which places the burden for education cost changes on local property taxes. It has been decades since the state has passed a two-year budget that failed to provide any additional state education aid. This decision by the state is largely what is driving increases in property tax bills across the state this year.
Winter Break Reminder
The West Bend Schools will be closed for students for winter break on Monday-Friday, December 22-26 and Monday-Friday, December 29-January 2. Students will return to school on Monday, January 5.

Recap of December 8 Meeting
The West Bend School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, December 8 at the Education Service Center. At the meeting, the board recognized the Head Start Program’s National Award of Excellence and the West Boys Cross Country for qualifying for the state championships.
The board approved the Consent Agenda with:
Minutes of the November 24, 2025 Regular Board Meeting and Executive Session
Retirement
Early Learning Relocation Grant
4K Program Boundaries
2025-2026 Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) and Booster Club Donations Authorization
Public Auction Item Authorization
Disbursements posted to November 28, 2025
The following reports were given: Curriculum Committee, Construction Report, Financial Report, and Superintendent's Report.
The board also discussed community survey development and engagement planning related to the high schools configuration.
Finally, the board took action to authorize the sale of the remaining $26.25 million in referendum-related bonds. This, combined with the sale of $80 million in bonds last April, allows for the utilization of all of the $106.25 million approved by the voters in November 2024 for the district’s ongoing construction projects. The bond sale in April resulted in a reduction of $8 million in interest cost to the taxpayer. It is possible that an even larger reduction in interest costs may result from this new round of bond sales. The administration will provide an update on that later in January.
If you are interested in reviewing the details of the meeting, see this tutorial on how to access the agenda with links to the supporting documents. A video of the meeting is available.
