St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER |WEEK 0 TERM 2 2026
We look forward to welcoming you back to school and to Term 2, this Monday 20th April. I hope the holidays were filled with rest, family time, and plenty of enjoyment of the beautiful weather we’ve been so fortunate to have. It’s always a gift to see our students return refreshed, re-energised, and ready for a new term of learning and growth.
As we begin the term, we also take time to acknowledge an important date on the school calendar. ANZAC Day will be commemorated during the first week of term, with the public holiday observed on Monday 27th April. This day holds deep significance as we remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of the men and women who have served our country and to those within our own community who continue to do so. As a school community, we will take time to reflect in an age-appropriate way, helping our students understand the values of service, resilience, and gratitude.
As you walk into the school on Monday, you will notice that there has been a lot of work over the holidays. Our new under-cover areas have been put up, and I hope you agree that they look amazing. From here we will be fixing the paving underneath, installing bag racks and hooks and looking to add some seating in these areas too. Please talk to your children about staying away from the fenced off areas and walking on the red bricks, we want to ensure everyone stays safe.
Our grassed areas have also had a fair bit of TLC these holidays with the oval and front lawns now looking green and lush. Our middle lawn has also started to fill in and will be out-of-bounds for the next month or so as it is seeded and given a chance to grow roots. While it is frustrating, my hope is that we will get it right this time and have a strong lawn for years to come!
Finally, the Great Gate Saga of 2026 is drawing to a close as our contractors begun to get it sorted these holidays. There is a fair bit still to do, however, by the end of the term it should all be rectified. I apologise to all our early years families for the inconvenience!
Looking ahead, Term 2 promises to be a rich and rewarding time of learning, connection, and opportunity. There is much to look forward to, both inside and outside the classroom, as we continue to support each child’s academic, social, and emotional development. Please do all you can to support your child at home by aiming for more calm than chaos, more kindness than judgment and more listening than talking!
As always, we are all reminded that attitude is everything. The mindset we bring to challenges, to growth, and to each other has a powerful impact. As parents and caregivers, your example matters deeply. When children see us striving to grow, showing resilience, and approaching life with positivity, they learn to do the same.
Thank you for the role you play in shaping not only your own child’s journey, but the strength of our whole community.
Wishing you all a wonderful start to Term 2.
Geordie
A big heartfelt thank you to our families and staff for all your generosity and support of Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, the mission we proudly supported in Term 1. Thanks to your kind donations in classroom boxes and the wonderful proceeds from our Shrove Tuesday pancake sale, we raised $456.25. This money has been donated to Caritas Australia to help support people and communities in need and will assist projects that provide practical help and hope to others.

Please remember to complete an absentee form whenever your child is away from school. This helps us keep accurate attendance records and meet reporting requirements. Notification must be in writing and can be submitted via our website - https://stbernadettes.wa.edu.au/families

In the Catholic tradition, our parish and school are closely connected.
The parish, led by Father Giovanni, provides spiritual leadership and is responsible for ensuring we nurture students’ faith alongside academic learning. The school supports the parish by helping children grow in Catholic values, preparing them for sacraments, and encouraging family participation in parish life.
It’s essentially a partnership — the parish is the faith community, and the school is one of its key ministries. For more information about our Parish, please click here:
