Cool Things Happening
Band Concert
On Thursday April 24th, PMSA held the annual Spring Band Concert. It was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talent and hard work of our student musicians. The evening featured a variety of energetic and heartfelt performances including music from Wicked, that had the audience tapping their feet and applauding with enthusiasm. A special highlight was a guest performance by the Roosevelt Middle School band, who joined us for a memorable performance that truly celebrated the spirit of musical community. Bravo to all our performers!
-Thank you, Mr. Berchtold!
Spring Fling
On Wednesday, April 23rd, NHS welcomed staff, students, and local middle schoolers to our annual Spring Fling Fundraiser! It was an afternoon filled with carnival games, community networking, and educational planning. Guests enjoyed everything from basket toss and prizes to Mario Golf, as well as the crowd-favorite: “Pie an NHS Member.” Yes, even Dean Zak took a pie to the face, all for a great cause! Also in attendance were our community partners from the Forest Park Library and Triton College, who shared a variety of valuable resources. The evening was a joyful celebration of school spirit, service, and connection!
-Thank you, Ms. Helpley!
Spring Chorus Concert
The annual Spring Chorus Concert on Tuesday April 22nd, was a beautiful event with songs from different cultures and genres. Our seniors were celebrated, given medals for their participation in chorus throughout the years, and sang solos.
-Thank you, Mr. Brown!
Fashion and Talent Show
The Student Council hosted its 6th annual Fashion and Talent Show. An amazing event showcasing the talented students of PMSA. We had many performances, taking first place was PMSA's very own band, Epiphany featuring Jose Figueroa, Elias Choc, Jayden Gonzales, and Payton Grant Duda. Second place went to Payton Cain giving us a stellar free style rap. Third place went to Gloria Pieniazek vocal performance. Eric Lazaro coordinated the themed fashion walks to showcase students fashion sense. Students showcased their clothing and/or accessories. We also had Christos Furs and Leather of Westchester allowing us to showcase a few of their spectacular pieces.
-Thank you Mr. Brown, Ms. Martinez, and Ms. Stompor!
Latino Council
PMSA Juniors and Seniors attended the Illinois LAtino Council on Higher Education (ILACHE) Conference at Governers State University. Students had the opportunity to attend various sessions and a research symposium, where they connected with Latino college students and education professionals currently working in the field.
-Thank you, Ms. Lugo and Mr. Garcia!
AP Seminar
This week and next, Mr. Markus' AP Seminar Juniors are giving their IMPs - Individual Media Presentations. The 6–8-minute presentations are based on their approx. 2000-word argumentative essays regarding individual topics that have been developed surrounding this year's general theme of "Memory and Nostalgia." Students each read and analyze a Stimulus Source Packet which this year included reports from the Alzheimer Association, an analysis of oral histories such as the Maori of New Zealand and a recounting of the Selenidad phenomenon as well as a speech given by Colin Powell following the 9/11 tragedy. Conducting a great deal of academic research such as Scholarly Research Journals and government documents, they formulated arguments to support their analysis. Overall, this project constitutes 35% of their total AP Score. Congrats for completing Performance Task 2!
-Thank you, Mr. Markus!
