April 2025: Edition 8, Issue 1.1
JFK Families,
Spring is upon us! On March 27th, we had our 1st Annual Art and Ice Cream Night! The weather could not have been better, and we welcomed almost 800 students, parents/guardians, and family members to our building! Our JFK halls were full of student work, the art room was transformed into a glow room, and we had ice cream and fruit snacks in the MPR. It was a magnificent evening and thank you to everyone who came to support our school.
On Wednesday, all students will enjoy a field trip to Roosevelt High School to watch Alice in Wonderland. We will be leaving the building promptly at 9 a.m. and returning to JFK by 11:00 a.m. We have created an adjusted lunch menu as students will enjoy a pizza slice (same pizza they serve at Roosevelt), apple slices, and carrots. We could not have had this experience without the generous fundraising that took place in the fall with our Fun Run. Thank you again for supporting our school.
Finally, 3rd - 5th-grade students will be taking the South Dakota Summative Assessment throughout April in ELA, Math, and Science (5th grade only). A testing schedule has been created, allowing students time to complete the test while also continuing with instruction and learning. Sleep, rest, and good nutrition are key elements to helping each student do their best. Additionally, towards the end of the month, K - 5th-grade students will take the end-of-year NWEA (MAP) assessment in ELA and Math.
Looking ahead, we are in need of volunteers for Field Day and our School Carnival on May 16th. Please look for the Sign-Up Genius in this newsletter if you are interested/able to volunteer. We are looking forward to ending the year strong!
Have a great month!
Mr. Wright, JFK Principal
School Zone Safety
Keeping Students and Staff SAFE is a Top Priority at JFK.
Please be sure to obey all traffic signs while in the school zone. Be sure you are slowed to 15 mph or slower when driving in the school zone. And please do NOT park in No Parking Zones as it blocks visibility in crosswalk areas. Thank you so much for your help and cooperation with this!

March Lexia Legends
JFK Students work on Lexia Reading Lessons that coordinate with their grade level. Students work at their own pace during class Lexia time each day or week. When they complete the entire Grade Level of lessons, they are considered LEXIA LEGENDS and receive a Completion Certificate. Then they are allowed to pick a new book from a special book basket! Congratulations to March's Lexia Legends!!
JFK Finishes Everybody Reads Strong!!
Everybody Reads Total!
We finished up Everybody Reads - thank you again so much for your support during this program! Our grand total is: 18,432 books read! Last year our total was 17,019 so we beat that by 1,413! We didn't meet our goal of 20,000, but it was still a great turn out. Remember - Keep Reading - READING is SWEET!
JFK & Papa Murphy's Be a Reader Program
As we are into the last quarter of school, just a remember to have students turn in their Papa Murphy's Reading Log Flier as they complete it so they can enjoy their reward of a Free Mini Murph Pizza Kit. This opportunity was optional for families to participate in this school year. (After 10 books are finished, students can turn the completed paper to your child’s teacher to receive the Free Mini Murph Pizza Kit Bookmark).
THANK YOU to Papa Murphy's for supporting our students and encouraging students to read books.
