Highlights from This Week
This week we welcomed many parents to our first round of parent teacher conferences. These conferences allowed teachers to invite caregivers to Freedom to address specific issues that have arisen in the beginning of the school year. All parents will be invited to attend our second round of parent teacher conferences on November 6th (see this space for more information) -- and please don't wait until then to reach out to our teachers or administration if you have a concern.

We also want to celebrate the success of our girls varsity cross country team which took first place at the conference meet this week. Congratulations to the team and to coaches Thomas Clark and Beth Iverson.

The week ahead.

• Some of our students will take the LAS Links test this week in their Dual Language Bi-Lingual classes. Please help student prepare for this English language proficiency test by encouraging them to get good rest and to do their best.
• Wednesday is the city-wide Bike Walk or Roll event. We encourage all members of our community to participate in active transportation to school on Wednesday.

Please continue reminding your students to come prepared every day with their iPad, planner, and ID—these items are essential for success at school.

Reminders:

Health Forms & Medications:

The Illinois state deadline for 6th-grade health forms is October 15th of the school year the student is entering 6th grade. All students entering 6th grade must submit a completed and signed State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination Form with up-to-date immunizations by this date to avoid exclusion from school.

If your child needs to take medication at school, a new medication permission form must be completed EACH school year. Medications must be brought in the original labeled container.

If your child has asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, or any other medical condition requiring special attention, please turn in an updated emergency action plan EACH school year.

All athletes need a sports physical on file in the nurse’s office, BEFORE they try out for a sport.

All school forms are located on the district website if needed.

We are excited to remind you that Freedom Middle School offers both hot and cold breakfast options for all students every day starting at 7:45 AM in the lunchroom. Students should continue to enter through Door 1 and proceed directly to the MPR to enjoy breakfast before heading to class. Students who arrive after 8:07 will still be given the cold breakfast option and allowed to eat in class.

Eating breakfast every day has many benefits, including:

• Improving focus and concentration in the classroom

• Boosting energy levels throughout the morning
• Supporting overall growth and development
• Helping students be ready to learn and succeed

We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to start their day with a healthy and nutritious meal!
