Dear parents, guardians, and students,

**Every week a different Academy student will act as a student ambassador for the weekly newsletter. Their message will feature some information about the student, The Academy, and what happened throughout the week.**

Hello,

My name is Robert. I moved out to South Dakota about eight or nine months ago to help my grandparents with their daily tasks. Some of the things I enjoy are playing games, driving my car, and relaxing. One thing I want to do when I am done with school is become an auto tech.

This week in The Academy I worked on getting caught up in all of my classes after being gone for several days on a family trip. Additionally, in government class we are learning about the Bill of Rights and all the freedoms American citizens get with them. In math we are learning about probability and how to solve probability problems.

Being in The Academy ensures that I can get my diploma and finally get done with high school! I was supposed to graduate with the Class of 2024 but due to me not managing my time well, playing three different sports, and trying to serve in the National Guard, I got very behind. After I was behind, I struggled to catch up in time to graduate with my class. But now I'm in South Dakota and in The Academy, so I can finish my remaining credits up and get done this trimester! I am set to graduate November fourteeth!

English Notes by Ms. R

English students write a journal entry, practice a spelling word, and learn a new vocabulary word every day. They also practice grammar. This week students are learning the building blocks of English grammar by studying proper and common nouns, action/state of being verbs, and pronouns. They also studied commonly misspelled words such as a lot and accommodate. Additionally, the students learned about the root word nat which means born, so they learned words like innate and prenatal. On Friday the students took a spelling test on commonly misspelled words, the parts of speech that they have been studying for last 3 weeks, and the vocabulary words that they had learned.

Additionally, students continued working on their poetry for the upcoming Poetry Slam that they will be competing in on September 23rd from 12:15 - 1:25! You are welcome to attend the Poetry Slam on the 23rd! The competition will take place in the Academy Building in room 201.

Students are also reading an independent reading book throughout the course of this trimester. This trimester they are reading dystopian novels such as: 1984 or Animal Farm by George Orwell, The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, etc . Students were able to select a book from 25+ different fiction dystopian books. The students read this book every day and write a paragraph about what they read. At the end of the trimester, they will complete a final project about the novel they selected.

If you would like to know what is coming up in Academy English, please feel free to review my trimester lesson plans. They can be found here.

Principles of Algebra and Geometry by Mr. Leonhardt

In math I learned that probability is the chance of something happening, and it's usually written as a fraction or percentage. I learned how to find the number of possible combinations when choosing items, especially when the order doesn't matter. Understanding these concepts helps solve real-world problems like predicting outcomes or organizing data.

By: Trent Byrum

This week we learned about probability and how to solve it in word problems. We also studied how to find probability from geometric shapes and learned how to find it for the geometric shapes. Additionally, we also had to learn to find perimeter of said shapes.

Integrated Science by Mrs. Wheaton

We finished up unit one last week, and we had a handful of students with awesome test scores; I am so excited. This week we have been working on scientific notation and conversions of measurements. Next week we will learn about significant figures, and we will also discuss density and have a boat competition! Things are going well and if your child ever wants extra help, please have him or her come and schedule time with me! I want every student to be successful.
