We are excited to celebrate Halloween at South Elementary School on the morning of October 30! Individual homeroom classes will celebrate with parties facilitated by our PTO. Students will have the opportunity to show off their creative costumes and enjoy a fun Halloween parade with their classmates.

Parents and families are welcome to watch the parade from the blacktop if the weather allows us to be outside. In the event that the parade must be held indoors, parents will not be able to attend. We appreciate your understanding as we make decisions to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for everyone.

To help make our celebration safe and fun for all students, please review the following costume guidelines:

• No masks or full head coverings.
• No blood or gore.
• No weapons or weapon-like costume accessories.
• No full-face paint that completely covers the face.
• No inflatable costumes during classroom activities. Inflatables may be inflated for the parade.

Please also remember that candy and other food treats are not allowed as part of our Halloween celebration.

A friendly reminder that students must have a parent or guardian with them in order to play on the blacktop after school. Students may go home and come back, but they must leave with a parent/guardian or have one present while playing.

The South Playground is closed to community members during school hours. Student safety in District 62 remains our highest priority. During school hours, it is our responsibility to maintain a secure campus to protect all children in our care.

While we love seeing our community enjoy our facilities, the playground is reserved exclusively for student use while school is in session. Limiting access during the day allows our staff to monitor the grounds effectively and ensures that every adult on-site is a vetted employee or authorized visitor.

We invite you and your children to enjoy the playground at South and school grounds anytime after the school day concludes. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our learning environment safe and focused for all students.

District 62 uses the Standard Response Protocol when responding to situations that require students to be out of their normal routine. This can include things like a fire drill, a water spill in the hallway, something in the community outside of the building, and a severe weather situation. Please see the image to the right to familiarize yourself with the Standard Response Protocol. Safety is our number one priority in District 62.
