Grade 6
January
This month, students in our Grade-Level and Honors math classes are learning about integers, inequalities, and the coordinate plane. Students in our Accelerated Honors classes will explore these same concepts and extend their learning by applying them to expressions and equations.
Grade 7
January
Honors: During the month of January, 7th Grade Honors students are learning about proportional relationships, focusing on how quantities relate to one another and how these relationships appear in tables, graphs, and real-world situations.
Accelerated Honors (Algebra 1): Students have completed the first three units and are now preparing for a summative assessment. This assessment gives students an opportunity to review and apply skills from earlier units in preparation for future Keystone exams. We encourage students to revisit content by reviewing their notes, previous units, and using the archived math newsletters linked at the bottom of this newsletter, which include helpful instructional videos from September through December.
Grade 8
January
Pre-Algebra: Pre-Algebra students will be focusing on solving equations with one variable and will begin exploring systems of equations with two variables.
- Video: Linear Equations with One Variable
- Video: How to Solve Systems of Equations by Graphing (Step by Step Guide)
- Video: Graphing, Substitution, Elimination- Solving Systems of Equations Step-by-step
Algebra 1: Algebra 1 students will focus on writing and graphing equations of lines. These skills help students understand relationships between variables and lay the foundation for more advanced math concepts.
Geometry: Geometry students are wrapping up Chapter 5, which focuses on triangle congruence, and will then begin Chapter 6 on triangle segment properties. These topics help students understand the relationships within triangles and strengthen their reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Algebra 2: During the month of January, Algebra 2 students will explore polynomial functions, radical functions, and rational exponents. Through these topics, students will strengthen their understanding of advanced algebra concepts and how they apply to real-world problem solving.
