Dear Coyote Families,

It was another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary! On Tuesday, we had a school holiday in observance of Veteran's Day. To all of the Veteran's in our Coyote Family, we would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for your service. In addition to our holiday, our Safety Patrol held a productive meeting on Wednesday to review procedures and maintain a safe environment for all students. On Friday, Our fifth graders headed to JA BizTown for an exciting hands-on learning experience! This immersive field trip allowed students to step into real-world roles such as running businesses, managing finances, and making decisions as citizens and consumers. It was a great opportunity for students to apply what they’ve learned about economics, responsibility, and teamwork in a fun and memorable way. We loved seeing our future leaders in action!

We’re looking forward to another exciting week ahead! Next week is a critical time for connection as we hold our Parent-Teacher Conference Week. These conferences are an invaluable opportunity to discuss your student's progress, celebrate their achievements, and set goals for the remainder of the school year. We strongly encourage all families to schedule and attend a conference with your student's teacher to ensure we are partnering effectively for their success. Please reach out to your child's teacher directly or check the school website if you still need to book your time slot. Thank you for your continued support and engagement!

Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Warmly,

Erica Edmonston

This is a fun, flexible way to get involved. Volunteers will:
  • Present short, hands-on garden lessons (about 20 minutes) to students.
  • No experience necessary! You don't need to be a garden pro or a certified teacher! We provide the materials.
  • The days and times are flexible and will be coordinated individually with you and the teachers.
Important Note on Clearing:
  • All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!

Interested in helping our school garden thrive? Contact Terri at terri.l.lane@gmail.com or call 619-861-6427.

Remember, written by Joy Harjo, illustrated by Michaela Goade

For generations, Native Nations have lived in relationship with the land, sustaining vibrant communities grounded in respect, sovereignty and tradition. Each November, we honor Native American Heritage Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the histories, cultures and continuing contributions of Native peoples. The book Remember, read aloud by the author Joy Harjo (a member of the Mvskoke Nation) reminds readers to pay close attention to who they are, the world they were born into, and how all inhabitants on earth are connected.

Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?

We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).

Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.

If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor.
