Catapults: The Launch of Early Engineering! Catapults: The Launch of Early Engineering!

Castles were built to be strong structures and protect all those who lived inside. Architects in the medieval times designed castles with several protection features such as high walls, moats, and drawbridges. In order to conquer the castle, people had to get creative with engineering!

Catapults launched heavy objects through the air. In order to use the catapult with precision and accuracy, operators had to calculate the optimum angle for launching the projectile from the farthest distance and use the correct amount of force to place the projectile into motion. Quality engineering had to be used to build a strong structure to make the catapult work properly. Using math, science, and engineering, people were able designed several catapult designs hundreds of years ago!

In this week's Engineering Challenge, you will design your own catapult to "Storm the Castle"! Have fun!
