How to Help at Home:

Practice telling time with your students at home. In first grade we learn to tell time at the hour and half hour. Help them practice telling time, and referring to the time in ways like: "It is a half past 2:00"

Practice counting coins with your students, counting by 1s, 5s, 10s, and 25s.

Students should be reading at home every night.

Have students practice rereading books that they are familiar with to practice fluency, reading rate, and reading with expression.

Please have student practicing their handwriting at home. This can be as simple as having them rewrite the alphabet and numbers, practice spelling high frequency words or their family members names!

A List of High frequency words/ heart words were given at conferences along with comprehension practice! These are easy things to work on at home!

Go over high frequency words with your students like:

the, I, a, said, to, do, of, see, he, be, me, from, look, book, are, was, you, what, have, your, want, no, go, so, goes, says, she, we, talk, walk, were, could, would, should, or, for,

MyPath

All students have access to MyPath through their Schoology/ Clever. Students can access targeted reading and math activities based on their needs on their phone, ipad, or computer. Students should utilize this over Thanksgiving break!

MyPath is the application that is connected to the students MAP test scores. So students are given a pathway based on the areas that they need to continue working on. The steps are below.

1. From the Marietta City Schools Webpage, Go to schoology. Log in should be your students lunch number and their password is their birthday in the format (MMDDYYYY)

2. Go to the waffle icon in the top right corner and hit Clever
3. Hit the rainbow "G" to login with google.
4. In the search bar type "MyPath". (There should be a reading and math option)

  • or look for the icons already made to favorites on the main Clever Screen.
5. Once you click on which subject you would like, they should be able to practice skills in different areas that align with their MAP scores.

From our ESOL:

Each year, students in English learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state. Students will be taking the test over the next few weeks.

Teachers in our school use this information to help them make decisions about instruction for your child. Teachers also use these test scores to monitor the progress your child makes toward English proficiency.

Please reach out to me (Jmanning@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) if you have any questions.

From EIP: Ms. Reed

Practice telling time with your students!

Telling time is a valuable skill. Students in first grade need to know how to tell time on a digital clock and an analog clock.
