Shelf Life in the Hawks' Nest
Dinovember 2.0!!
With November comes one of my favorite times of the year in the library--Dinovember!
We will be enjoying special dinosaur books and library stations during the month of November, as well as the fall Book Fair!
Another thing our K-2 students have really been enjoying is listening to me read books with the Novel Effect app. This app adds in sound effects and music and brings stories to life. I connect my phone to a wireless speaker so it makes it loud enough for ALL to hear it. It's a fun way to mix up story time, or use this with your own children to make bedtime stories even more special! Here is a SUPER-short video demo to show you how to get started.
**Full disclosure--While there are some free stories and features, I do use a paid subscription to unlock all of the books, but you can access some features for free.**
Our book fair is scheduled to arrive around November 9th (maybe sooner), so our schedule will change that week due to book fair set-up, and there will be NO LIBRARY CLASSES November 10th-18th due to the book fair.
Please note schedule changes due to book fair:

Mr. Daniels and I are working to create some great tech PD opportunities for our staff, but we want to make sure what we are offering is what you actually WANT, so please fill out this short survey so we know what you want and need for this year! CLICK HERE

Differentiating Quizzes and Tests in Google Forms:
Check out this video from Mr. Daniels about how to create sections in your Google Forms to differentiate the types of questions and content each student in your class encounters. This is a great way to evaluate students on their level. You can also CLICK HERE for more resources on using Google forms from another great teacher content creator, "Writing with Miss G".
Immersive Reader
Check out this short video on how to use Immersive Reader to differentiate for students who need additional support.
Using "Badger" to celebrate our AWESOME Staff!
We are working to create digital badges celebrating the awesome and meaningful ways you incorporate technology into your daily instruction. We want these student devices and apps to be more than just a "thousand dollar pencil", and this is a great way to show off the great things you are doing to your class families and other staff members!
An Oldie but a GOODIE!!
Have you ever wanted to share a document, but you want others to make a copy and not edit your original?? You can force a copy by simply changing the end of the link from "/edit" to "/copy". Here is a quick video tutorial if you've never tried this helpful feature!
Hour of Code 2022:
December 5th-11th, 2022, is this year's Hour of Code Week. If you've never tried this awesome experience, this year is a great time to dive in! There are games and activities for every age and type of device, so anyone can enjoy this fun event. Check out the website for more details!
Another Awesome Teacher to Follow...
You may know of Kasey Bell, creator of the Shake Up Learning podcast, blog, and teacher resource center, but if not, she is a great person to check out when trying to incorporate technology meaningfully into your instruction. CLICK HERE to visit her website! She's also on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, and more...lots of great resources!
