The Weekly Buzz
From Palmer River Elementary School
April 2, 2026
Dear PRES Community,
This was a great week, albeit a short one with no school on Friday. We kicked off the week with our fourth graders singing at the Providence Bruins Game on Sunday (pictured above). They did a fantastic job and represented PRES in such a positive light! Also making us proud this week, our third graders finished their ELA MCAS tests, with only make-up sessions remaining. Next week, it is fourth grade’s turn to show what they know and work hard.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal and Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

In Case You Missed It...
Last week, WBZ Meteorologist Jacob Wycoff visited PRES and spoke with our third graders about what it’s like to be a TV meteorologist and the impact of extreme weather both locally and around the world. Our students loved the experience!
He even gave PRES a shoutout during the Saturday morning broadcast—click below to check it out!
🩺 The Buzz from Nurse Elizabeth 🩺
Even though it’s the first week of April, those germ “bugs” didn’t get the memo—they’re still hanging around at Palmer River. This week, strep throat and Flu B continue to be diagnosed in our school community, and these illnesses can spread quickly, especially in classrooms.
Common symptoms to watch for:
Flu B: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue
Strep Throat: sore throat, fever, headache, and sometimes stomach pain or vomiting
How to help keep everyone healthy:
- Keep your child home if they are sick
- Children must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning
- Encourage frequent handwashing
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated
If your child is not feeling well, please monitor symptoms and contact your healthcare provider as needed. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for helping keep our school community healthy!

Identifying Anxiety and Supporting Effective Regulation
By the Mass. Partnership for Youth
May 6th at 6PM
With an increasing number of children experiencing elevated anxiety levels, this workshop aims to support parents in identifying red flags, symptoms, and indicators that their child may be struggling to regulate and manage big feelings. We will explore the difference between developmental expectations and challenges vs. signs of elevated anxiety, along with the role the brain plays in the experience of emotion, and ways to help support and co-regulate with our children when they are struggling. Finally, we will review ways to proactively communicate with our kids in order to promote healthy understanding and expression of all emotions.
This series is being presented in collaboration with the Seekon Public Schools.
