December 2025
A letter from our leader Janice
As the holidays approach and I remember the stories told, the songs sung and the pictures shared, I wanted something fresh and unexpected to write about. “I know Miss Dice - it is dangling.” I went down the proverbial rabbit hole and found a story about a rabbit.
The Velveteen Rabbit was loved and cared for. Her little person, a boy, loved her very much. After all, she was soft and cuddly. She had big floppy ears and a big personality. When the boy fell ill, the Dr. ordered the rabbit gone. She was “kicked to the curb.” Despite being cherished, she was cast aside and felt lost.
But the story doesn’t end in sadness. The Velveteen Rabbit discovers she has a chance to become more - more alive, more wanted and more real. She is transformed into a real live bunny.
So now, like the story bunny, when myself or someone I love gets kicked, I look for the real. What is really happening, how can I really show up, and what is the real lesson? I hope I will find it. The Velveteen Rabbit did.

We kept Geri on her toes at retreat as the threesome of Gini, Becky, and Melinda kept the laughs coming! As the quintessential teacher she is, Geri rolled right with it all and we left with cute and useful (mostly) items/gifts.

December Meeting
- Bring lunch and/or something to share
- Bring a KISS it goodbye (a project you no longer want to even look at!)
- Bring fused and cut out flowers as well as a background to work on an arrangement of your own like those pictured below. Can't get to cutting and fusing? No problem, Silke will have materials to use.
- From Silke: If possible, bring a couple of fat quarters that have potential for backgrounds
I tend to want my vases to be interesting but not overwhelming: look through your leftovers for promising pieces in the 10x10 range. Bring paper backed fusible if you have the equivalent of a fat quarters that (otherwise you can get some from me)

Another quilt hanging technique
Another idea for hanging : metal furring strip from Home Depot attached to wall with Command strips - then either magnets in sleeves or as shown magnets on furring strip then metal pole in sleeve.

Silke uses Superior thread 100 weight (micro quilter)-blends in well.
Kathy I. uses 100 weight silk thread by Yli (order from Amazon or another vendor online).
Critique Documents for reference
https://www.janedunnewold.com/resources/critiques
One is a checklist that can be used as a guideline when looking at a quilt - this is published on her website as part of her creative strength training class.
The second is a detailed essay she wrote concerning the process.
I hope that these documents will help the Bee Artful group conduct critique sessions that are productive.
Letter from the editor
Where did the year go? We finished November with a fun retreat as you can tell from the pics above. I am looking forward to the December meeting activity where I plan to make it a seasonal bouquet for a Christmas present. I hope everyone is able to enjoy some creativity during the holiday season. Too often we have too many demands on our time during the holidays. Go to your sewing room/studio/happy place to have a little time for yourself. Enjoy your newsletter!
I am happy to convey all of these wonderful "goings on" via this newsletter. Try to get things to me in advance of the end of the month via email (mandmoliver@gmail.com) or text. If you put the word "newsletter" somewhere in the message line I will be able to find it easier (if using email). See you soon.
Melinda
