The Westgate Wire

We have noticed an increase in students bringing toys and other items from home to play with at school. While we understand the appeal, these items—including toys and fidgets—can become distractions during the school day and also carry the risk of being lost or stolen. At Westgate, staff provide many options for play during both indoor and outdoor recess, so children have plenty to choose from at school.

If your child attends the CAP program or another before/after school program where these items are allowed, they should remain in the backpack during the school day.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a focused and safe learning environment!

September is National Literacy Awareness month and to celebrate Westgate Cares is teaming up with Bernie's Book Bank to help children in the greater Chicagoland area have access to books and experience the joy of reading! Westgate Cares will be collecting new or gently used (birth - 6th grade reading level) books. Children’s picture books, board books, recent non-fiction, graphic novels, and chapter books are all appreciated. Books can be dropped off at the bins near the school office between Tuesday, Sept. 2nd and Friday, Sept. 12th.

Today was Picture Day! Please note that there was no pre-ordering. Families will receive an email with a link to view and order online. Orders are shipped directly to the home, and they offer free shipping for the first two weeks after the photos are posted.
