When Life Gets Blurry, Adjust Your Focus!
A letter from our leader Janice
We've all had those weeks.
The fabric just sits there on the table. The machine doesn't get turned on. That project you were so excited about last month... somehow it feels far away now.
Maybe it's been appointments. Or a grandchild who needed watching. Or just one of those stretches where your energy went somewhere else and didn't come back yet. Whatever it's been for you — you're not behind. Your project is just postponed.
A hobby we love is supposed to fit into our lives. Not the other way around. Some weeks we sew for hours. Other weeks, threading a needle is the win. Both count.
And when the machine's not an option — hand stitching can be. It goes anywhere. A little project, a needle, some thread, tucked in your bag. Waiting rooms. Car rides. Even a long trip away from home. A few quiet stitches here and there, and somehow, something gets made.
So if your focus has been blurry lately — be gentle with yourself. Pick it back up whenever you're ready. It'll still be there.
So will we.
Keep pedaling,
Janice

Fusible Information
From the newsletter "Pressing Matters"
Pressing Matters (fused applique, cotton)
Have you noticed the changes in fusible web over the years? The consistency of the glue changes, the paper changes, and companies go out of business. For 20 years or more, I recommended using Pellon Wonder Under #805. This recommendation for a dry glue transferred to fabric with the heat of an iron is in my books and online classes.
But now I have my reservations.
Recently, the glue formula for #805 has changed, as has the paper backing the web. The glue is thicker, and the paper only has silicone on one side.
So I’m recommending Misty Fuse for fusing my fabrics. It’s lightweight and easy to hand-stitch through. There is also a new product called Gentle Fuse that closely resembles the old #805 and Soft Fuse that I loved. Both Misty Fuse and Gentle Fuse are available online, and I’ll be purchasing them from now on.

Another quilt hanging technique
Another idea for hanging : metal furring strip from Home Depot attached to wall with Command strips - then either magnets in sleeves or as shown magnets on furring strip then metal pole in sleeve.

Critique Documents for reference

One is a checklist that can be used as a guideline when looking at a quilt - this is published on her website as part of her creative strength training class.
The second is a detailed essay she wrote concerning the process.
I hope that these documents will help the Bee Artful group conduct critique sessions that are productive.
Letter from the editor
How do you pick one photo from a trip to Alaska? I just had to include the smaller picture of the fireweed which was in full bloom and is the state flower. I picked the larger one because we had not gone in peak summer before and we had not experienced this amount of sunshine on our previous trips. It got to about 75 on the sunny days and there were heat advisories! The sun is super intense though and the wildlife spent more time hiding out in the shade so we don't not see as much this time. I am sorry to have missed the retreat as it looks like there was plenty of creating and laughs to go around. I am looking forward to meeting at our new location in Clarksville in September.
I am happy to convey all of these wonderful "goings on" via this newsletter. Try to get things to me in advance of the end of the month via email (mandmoliver@gmail.com) or text. If you put the word "newsletter" somewhere in the message line I will be able to find it easier (if using email). See you soon.
Melinda
