Our Vision:
Pride in Self, Pride in Community, Pride in Learning
The Principal's Corner
Dear Lions Family,
I continue to be amazed at the learning, engagement, and excitement I see during classroom walkthroughs. From the first bell to the last, our students are focused and working hard.
In the elementary grades, students are practicing phonics, reading, writing, grammar, and math every day — often integrated with science or social studies. I’m sure you’re seeing this reflected in your child’s school folder. In middle school and high school, students are transitioning smoothly between classes, and so far, we’ve had very few issues with tardiness.
That being said, I want to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of being on time. Attendance and punctuality play a key role in a strong education. Arriving on time minimizes interruptions and ensures your child receives the best learning experience possible.
For your reference, I’ve included our Tardy and Arriving Late Policy from the handbook below. If you have any questions or need clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Tardies
Students not in their seat with all required learning materials when the bell rings will be counted tardy. Repeated tardiness may require the student to make up for the lost time in the form of after school detention or ISS.
Arriving Late/Early Departure:Leaving School Early
Students who are late arriving at school must sign in at the office before reporting to class. They will be issued an excused or unexcused absence, or tardy, based upon their reason for being late and based upon the time of their arrival. If a student is late to class but attends more than 50% of the class, they will be counted tardy. If a student misses more than 50% of the class, they will be considered absent. For example, a student that arrives after the 8:05 a.m. start bell will be counted tardy until 8:30 a.m.. If they arrive after 8:30 a.m., they will be considered a Late Arrival and absent for class.

Information for Getting a CDL to Drive a Bus
The process for getting a CDL is not difficult, and we will help you! Here is what you need to do:
- Take the written portion of the exam. Here is the study guide. You can get a printed copy at any testing site. You will need to take the test for School Bus, Class B with passengers. You do NOT need to test for air brakes.
- After you pass all portions, take the paper the testing site gives you to the license office and get your permit. You also have to take 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID.
- Come see us--James Luttrell is our federally approved site trainer, and he will provide your training to take the pre-check and driving portions of the test. He will also take you to the testing site when you take the test. Before he does that, we will need you to complete an application and get a fingerprint background check to ensure you are eligible to work for the district.
- After you pass your test, you will take your paperwork to the license office again with 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID and get your CDL.
- Keep all of your receipts--we reimburse for the permit, CDL, and fingerprints, and we pay for the drug testing and physical.
- As soon as you have a CDL, are approved by the Board, have a DOT physical, and pass a pre-employment drug test, you can sub bus routes and/or drive activity trips.
Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher?
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher and you do not have the required 36 college hours, you can do an online course that will allow you to get a substitute certificate. Here is the link to that course, and here is the link to the DESE web page that gives you more information about what you need to do to get a substitute certification. Our daily rate for subs for the 2025-26 school year will be $100/day!
