Benton Weekly Update

Last Friday the Advanced Music Ensembles held their Winter Concert at Excelsior Auditorium. The music was beautiful and kicked off the holiday season. Kudos to all the students as well as our music teachers, Mr. Ian Hansen (Orchestra), Ms. Esther Lin (Chorus & Guitar), and Mr. Sean Gohn (Symphonic Band, Jazz Band). We are looking forward to another Winter Concert featuring our Beginning Ensembles on Wednesday, 12/11 at 5:00pm at Benton. The Art Gallery will be open prior to the concert from 4:15-5:00pm, come early and view the exhibits.

Congratulations to the Students of the Month for November, as well as our students with Perfect Attendance. The students were recognized last week at our Virtual Homeroom Assembly. We also had a visit from the team at Apple to present Benton with its Apple Distinguished School award. It was an exciting day! Be sure to check out the Benton Broadcast Episode 4, linked below. In other arts news, the Advanced Drama students are busy rehearsing for the upcoming performances of A Christmas Carol. Teachers are signing up their classes to view the show next Monday and Tuesday. Students who are interested in auditioning for our spring musical, Matilda should click on the link below to find out more about submitting their audition.

Students can stop by the Wellness Center to participate in our holiday philanthropy of sending holiday messages to senior citizens in convalescent homes and assisted living facilities in our community. Take the time to brighten someone's holiday by sending them a holiday card or note.

Open Enrollment is during the months of December and January. If you have a student entering 6th Grade or 9th Grade and wish to attend a school that is not your school of residence, you will need to complete an Open Enrollment Application online. Returning 7th & 8th Graders do not need to reapply for a permit. At Benton, we appreciate the opportunity to share our unique programs with prospective families and students. Benton's ASB recaps what's been happening around campus in the Benton Broadcast.

Several Benton students entered photographs in the La Mirada Arts Colony's Mirrors of Your Mind art show. Four Benton students were recognized at the Artist Reception and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 23rd. Congratulations to the following students:

Benton students will be distributing Holiday cards to seniors again this holiday season. Last year Benton delivered 233 holiday cards to 3 convalescent facilities in our community. We hope to have the same success again this year, drop by the Wellness Center this week to help.

Students will attend periods 1A – 4A on Wednesday. This Wednesday, like all Wednesdays, we have early dismissal at 1:45pm.

The concert begins at 5:00pm OUTSIDE in the Quad for Band & Orchestra, and in the Benton MPR for Chorus and Guitar. You can visit the Art Gallery from 4:15-5:00pm before the concert begins.

Do you need to make up an absence or get caught up on school work? Be sure to attend Saturday School on 12/14 from 8:00am-12:15pm. Permission Slips are available in the office and linked below.

The last day of school is Thursday, December 19th, which is a minimum day with dismissal at 1:15pm. Students return to school on Tuesday, January 7th.

Parents, please help us by checking your student's outfit before they leave for school. If students are out of dress code, the students may be asked to change into P.E. clothes or a loaner shirt or shorts.

As you can see below, we have A Days and B Days. Students have periods 1A-4A on A Days, every Monday and Thursday, and periods 5B-8B on B Days, every Tuesday and Friday. On Wednesdays, we alternate between A Days and B Days.
