Boyden Weekly Update
May 23, 2025
Dear Boyden Families,
Our "Spring Concert Series" began this week with Kindergarten and Grade 1 students performing. Directed by Mrs. Cassani, the students were able to showcase all of their hard work throughout the school year. They did an excellent job!
On Monday, Walpole High School graduating seniors who were Boyden alumni came back for a "clap out" through the school. It's a special event for the teachers to see their former students and for our current students to be inspired by the seniors. We wish these amazing seniors the best of luck!
Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend with family and friends as we honor and remember those who lost their lives in service to our country. On Monday, May 27th take some time to salute our fallen and honor our heroes.
Enjoy the weekend!

News from the Nurse
This week we have seen an increase of students who are experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. Please see the information below:
Vomiting and Diarrhea
Usually called viral gastroenteritis, the virus causes inflammation and irritation of the stomach and the intestines, leading to vomiting and diarrhea. This illness, often called the "stomach flu" typically lasts 1-2 days, with diarrhea lasting a few days longer.
- Your student needs to be fever free and vomiting free for at least 24 hours, without the help of any fever-reducing medication, before they can return to school.
School Garden Project
Boyden is looking for families to volunteer to care for the Boyden garden. Each elementary school has a garden and typically grows flowers, herbs, and vegetables. On Saturday mornings between 8:30-9am whatever is able to be harvested is brought to the Farmers Market in Walpole at Spring Brook Park (located on Rte 27 /East St. near Farmer in the Dell) where shoppers at the market can fill a bag and leave a donation. This program started at Elm Street in 2013 and has been self-sustaining -we are entering our 12th year! All four elementary schools participate and the Middle School will soon be joining us! You do not need a green thumb for this volunteer project! When caring for the garden during the summer if any of the vegetables need to be picked before Saturday our volunteers are encouraged to take it home rather than let it become too ripe!
If you are interested in volunteering please reach out to Kathi Garvin at KATHLEENGRN35@gmail.com or my cell is 508-208-4868. This is a great family project! Thank you!

Bash the Trash Assembly
On Thursday, the PAC sponsored an assembly title "Bash the Trash" based around building musical instruments from reused and repurposed materials connecting this to science and the environment. It’s was a great way to explore current issues of pollution and other things impacting the environment. Ask your children about it!
Math News
As we reflect on another great year of learning in our elementary math classrooms, it is always amazing to see the growth in our students. This year we have had more students than ever reach the 80% and 100% goals in ST Math. Every school has once again, hit over 100% puzzle progress as a school and we still have a few weeks to go!
The implementation of Math Fact Lab has been a great success as all students have improved their fact fluency while they strived to reach their grade level goals. In this third year of the implementation of Bridges, classrooms have solidified their routines around Number Corner, Work Places, and lesson investigations and our students have risen to the challenge of this rigorous curriculum. It has been wonderful to hear and see the pride in our students as their math disposition grows increasingly more positive each year.
With only 3 weeks left in the school year, it is important to set goals and a plan for how to avoid summer slide after all the wonderful progress students have made throughout the year. Research has shown that students can lose up to 2 months of reading skills and 2 ½ months of math skills over one summer depending on their grade level. The good news is that there are easy and fun ways to prevent this loss of learning and maintain or even make gains over the summer.
The most important thing to do is keep your children active and thinking over the summer. Preventing summer slide does not equate with giving your children worksheets to do each week. Instead, encourage them to play outside, play board games, participate in imaginative play, and read for pleasure!
In order to keep those young mathematicians’ brains active, we have a whole section of our Family Math Site dedicated to activities and games your students can access to keep their minds engaged and math skills sharp. While we do not require students to complete any specific task, we do encourage them to engage their mathematical brain for 60-90 minutes a week on activities of their choice. If you scroll to the bottom of the web page, there are also printable packets for each grade level if that is what your child enjoys.
We want our Walpole students to have a wonderful summer, but we don’t want them to lose all the hard work they put in during the school year! We hope you all find time to relax and recharge over the summer while staying active and engaged in your choice of fun learning activities.

Family Survey
You should have received—or will soon receive—an email invitation to participate in the Walpole Public Schools district-wide Family School Climate Survey. The purpose of the survey is to learn more about you and your child’s experiences in our schools. We have partnered with K12 Insight to administer the survey, gather responses, and analyze the feedback. The insights we collect will play a key role in guiding our School Councils as they develop School Improvement Plans for the upcoming year. We sincerely appreciate your input. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us create the best possible learning environment for all students.
