Application Requirement Updates at Queens

Hello,
In the wake of recent natural disasters that have had catastrophic effects across our region, we understand how challenging this time may be, and want to make the college application process as easy as possible for students.

At Queens, we’ve adjusted our application requirements in the following ways:

  • The essay is now an optional part of our application process.

We hope these changes help to make the application process more accessible. As always, our admissions team is here if you have any questions or need support.

Ashley Cannon, Social Studies Teacher

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy playing golf with friends and my sons. We also enjoy watching sports on tv, especially our

Gamecocks and the LIV golf league.

Tell a little bit about your background.

I grew up on a farm, with my parents and 4 siblings, in the small town of Turbeville, S.C. We worked hard, but had a lot of fun too. I moved to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina, where I received my B.A. in political science in 2000 and Masters in Teaching in 2001. I took a job at White Knoll Middle School after graduation where I taught 8th grade history for 16 years. I met my wife while teaching at WKMS, where we worked on the same team. She was the ELA teacher and I was the social studies teacher. We have been married for 17 years and have three sons. JacksonLee is 15, Hudson is 12, and Graham is 9.

What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I teach various social studies courses, including U.S. History and American Government. I really enjoy helping students meet their goals and learn about the history of our country. My favorite part of teaching at our school is helping students who are struggling, and behind in credits, turn things around and graduate on time.

What do you want the students to know about you?

I want students to know that I care about them and will do whatever I can to help them learn and succeed in my courses.
