Stacks of Happiness: Pōʻalua Pancakes Tuesday Tradition Stacks of Happiness: Pōʻalua Pancakes Tuesday Tradition

Special thanks to the Pōʻalua Pancakes event on the Kapi'olani Community College Campus. The dedicated volunteers come together with a three-fold intention: to offer delectable free pancakes as a nourishing option for our students, create an inviting space for meaningful interactions among students, staff, and faculty, and to serve as a hub for sharing essential campus and community resources. Beyond the delightful aroma of pancakes for this weekly gathering we would like to extend a heartfelt expression of gratitude to all those who participate in this wonderful project.

CERENE Cultivates Resilience at KCC's Mala Workshop CERENE Cultivates Resilience at KCC's Mala Workshop

In collaboration at KCC's māla, the CERENE team engaged with students in an insightful workshop, exploring the connection between resilience and the native Hawaiian perspective. Against the backdrop of a garden rich in native Hawaiian medicinal plants, the students delved into the traditional and sustainable cultivation methods that reflect the wisdom of the islands' generational knowledge. The māla serves as a living embodiment of native Hawaiian practices, fostering a unique environment where generational knowledge meets modern understanding. Together with KCC students, we explored how to create a connection of native and Western knowledge systems, and explored pathways to enhance resilience.

City's Draft Climate Adaptation Strategy, Climate Ready O‘ahu, Now Available for Public Comment! City's Draft Climate Adaptation Strategy, Climate Ready O‘ahu, Now Available for Public Comment!

The City has just released a draft of its first-ever climate adaptation strategy called “Climate Ready Oʻahu,” and we want your input!

As we work hastily to decrease greenhouse gas emissions to slow down the effects of climate change, we must also take climate adaptation measures to decrease our vulnerability to hazards like sea-level rise, increasing temperatures, and more—that’s where Climate Ready Oʻahu comes in.

Climate Ready O‘ahu asks us to imagine the kind of future we want for ourselves, our families, and future generations. When we understand the risks that climate change presents, we can be better prepared to navigate its challenges on the pathway to a climate-ready future. But what does a climate-ready O‘ahu look like? Check out the draft to find out! And while you’re reviewing, be sure to share your manaʻo by posting your comments directly on the document.
