NWC Families,

We are so excited that fall has officially arrived at NWC! This season brings exciting events and so many opportunities for our Cardinal family to come together, learn, and celebrate our students.

There is so much to look forward to at NWC, including MAP Night, Red Ribbon Week, our Bike Rodeo, and our always-popular Trunk or Treat! Each of these events gives us the opportunity to build strong connections with our students, families, and community while creating special memories along the way.

We are also thrilled to bring back our NWC Book Fair! This year is extra special because we have welcomed our AMAZING librarian, Mrs. Vela, to the NWC family! We are so excited to have her leading our students in discovering new books, developing a love for reading, and making the library an even more special place on our campus.

Fall is always a special time at NWC, and we can’t wait to enjoy all the fun, learning, and Cardinal spirit this season has in store! Be sure to mark your calendars and join us!

To keep you informed and connected, I’ll be posting monthly bulletins on our school website and Facebook page. Your child’s teacher will also share these updates via email. You can access our site through the NISD homepage at nisd.net/northwestcrossing.

Love,

Mrs. Siano

Traffic Safety

NWC Families,

This is a friendly reminder regarding morning student drop-off in the front parking lot:

Students may only be dropped off in the inner lane.

  • Please do not drop students off in the outer lane closest to the street. This creates traffic concerns and makes it difficult for other families to safely exit the parking lot.
  • For everyone’s safety, please do not leave your vehicle running while unattended.

We appreciate your help in following these procedures and keeping our morning drop-off safe and efficient for everyone. Thank you for your support!

Mrs. Siano

Principal

Attendance

Attendance is extremely important for all students to be successful in school. The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. It is recommended that all children arrive by 7:40 a.m. Children arriving after 7:45 a.m. are tardy . A child who is not present at 9:00 a.m. is counted absent for the day. All students must bring a note when they return from an absence. If the student does not bring a note the absence is counted as unexcused.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE:

Students who have not exceeded one tardy or one partial day absence during the 9 week period that is not categorized as a documented appointment with a healthcare professional will be recognized for perfect attendance.

In order to receive a perfect attendance recognition at the end of the year, students may have no more than 4 tardies or 4 partial day absences during the year that are not categorized as a documented appointment with a healthcare professional. See Student /Parent Handbook.

EARLY PICK-UP:

If your child must leave school earlier than 3:00 p.m., parents must come to the school office and sign their child out. Students will only be released to parents/Individuals listed in HAC at the time of registration and proper identification will be required. For the safety of all children, we will not release students to individuals who are not listed on HAC or individuals who do not have proper ID. It is therefore important for parents to update contact information on HAC as changes occur. This can be done by emailing your child's teacher or visiting the front office with valid ID. Please note that an Early Sign-Out is considered a partial-day absence.

Campus Visitors & Background Checks

We welcome parents and guests to our campus! For the safety of all students, parents, visitors, and volunteers must check in through the front office using the Raptor Visitor Tracking System between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. A valid photo ID is required and will be scanned by office staff. Visitors will receive a badge that must be worn while on campus and returned when exiting.

We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to complete a background check in advance. A completed background check is required to participate in certain school events and volunteer opportunities. This helps us maintain a safe environment while allowing families to be actively involved in our school community.

All visitors must enter and exit through the front office. All other doors remain locked during the school day and should not be used. Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping our students safe!

Breakfast/Lunch Visitors

Breakfast

To help ensure all of our students have adequate seating during breakfast, we are unable to accommodate visitors during this time. Thank you for your understanding and support!

Lunch

Parents are welcome to enjoy lunch with their child beginning September 14th! If you have a completed background check on file, you may join your child in the cafeteria. You may also choose to enjoy a meal together in our picnic area.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take the first few weeks of school to establish our cafeteria routines and ensure a smooth lunch experience for all students.

Safety

In Northside, the safety of our students and staff is one of our top priorities. We regularly review and revise our safety plans and procedures to enhance security. Keeping our schools safe requires continuous work and communication with our students, staff, and families. Our approach to safety focuses on three areas - our people, our facilities and technology, and our procedures. For more information, please visit our District safety webpage.
