Note from the Director
I wanted to take a moment to once again share information about our grading categories. They are:
- Career Readiness Products - “Get the Job”
- Professionalism and Habits of Work - “Keep the job”
- Industry Knowledge and Theory - “Understand the job”
- Technical Skill Proficiency - “Do the Job”
More about professionalism: we have heard repeatedly from many employers across the Upper Valley that they are looking for employees with a high level of professionalism. There are ten components to our professionalism rubric, and I’ll share a little bit about two of them here. One is punctuality and readiness. In the workplace, this means an employee who arrives in the workspace on time and is ready to get to work right away. Another component is productivity. In the workplace, these are the employees that work efficiently and actively look for the next thing to do after they complete a task.
Students with skills such as these will thrive in any workplace they enter. I’ve also been explaining to our students that these are the skills that give you more opportunities and higher-paying jobs. 💲💲💲
We recognize that as students begin in their programs many of them do not yet know these skills. Our instructors work hard to teach these skills over the course of the two years that students are with us. Growth is what we’re all about.
Parents, when report cards are mailed home at the end of the quarter you will see how your child is doing in each of the grading areas, including professionalism.
