St Anthony's School News

Week 5 - Thursday 16th May 2024
Principal's Message
This weekend we hear again the story of the first Pentecost and pray that God will continue to fill us with his Holy Spirit so that his character strengths of love, joy and peace will flow into every facet of our lives so that as we are renewed. We pray the world will also be changed into a better place as God works through us.
The evidence of this change shows itself in our character when we bear the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
How fitting it is that our Year 6 students receive the gifts of the Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming weekend. The gift of the Spirit received in this sacrament helps them to be the face of Christ in the world. But a gift is only valuable if one uses it. It is up to the students receiving the gift of the Spirit to call on the Spirit for strength to “be the face of Christ” in their relationships with others.
Please keep our Confirmation candidates in your thoughts and prayers this weekend.

St Anthony’s Parent Code of Conduct
We expect every parent to passionately advocate for their child. The staff at St Anthony’s show courtesy and respect to parents who challenge our professional judgement. We also expect every parent to show us the same civility. We all must be models to our children in words and actions, especially in the respectful way we work through differences of opinion. We will always continue to collaborate with parents to address and resolve concerns.
Mother’s Day Breakfast
What a wonderful morning it was at the Mother’s Day Breakfast last week. Weather forecasts indicated rain but it held off and for that we are very grateful.
Thank you to all who came along and then stayed to celebrate mass with us.
God Bless

School Code of Conduct
A reminder that every member of the St Anthony’s School community must behave in the manner described in our Code of Conduct.
Our Code is like the 40km/h speed limit outside our school in the mornings and afternoons. It defines behaviours that keep our students safe: at school, and elsewhere. Children and young people surrounded by adult and peer behaviours as outlined in the Code are more likely to recognise and choose healthy relationships for themselves.
Conduct Statements
- You act safely and competently.
- You give priority to students’ safety and well-being in all your behaviour and decision making.
- You act in accordance with the values of the Gospel as defined in the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- You conduct yourself in accordance with laws, agreements, policies and standards relevant to your relationship with the school community.
- You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.
- You treat personal information about members of the school community as private and confidential.
- You give impartial, honest and accurate information about the education, safety and well-being of students.
- You support all members of the school community in making informed decisions about students.
- You promote and preserve the trust and privilege inherent in your relationship with all members of the school community.
- You maintain and build on the community’s trust and confidence in Catholic schools and the Church.
- You act reflectively and ethically.
- You allow students to have a voice in their education, safety and well-being
The Code describes the minimum requirements expected of all members of our community and that all in our community conduct themselves personally and professionally in a way that maintains public trust and confidence in our school and the Church. While mandatory language such as ‘must’, ‘shall’ and ‘will’ is not used throughout the Code, there is a presumption the conduct described is mandatory and therefore not optional.
Sport News
We would like to extend our congratulations to all the students who participated in our school cross-country event this week. Despite the unseasonably warm weather, each and every one of you demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination to complete the race. Your efforts are truly commendable.
We also want to express our gratitude to the staff, students and parents who assisted on the day, making the event a success. A special thank you goes to Mr Matta for always being available to help with these types of events and to Mrs Geddes for taking on the job of scoring.
Congratulations to the top 3 runners from each year group.
The top three runners in each grade for both boys and girls from Years 1 to 6 will be recognised at next Monday's assembly, we will also announce the cross-country winning house for 2024.
Well done to everyone!
Yours in sport

On Monday 13th May, Kai Hooper represented Australia at the UCI BMX World Championships 2024 in Rock Hill, South Carolina USA. Kai qualified for the event by winning the Australian National Championships in his age group in 2023. Kai was up against 98 of the fastest 9 year old boys from around the world. Kai managed to make the Quarter Finals but unfortunately his day ended there and he is now ranked 25th in the World, such an AMAZING achievement!! Kai also came away with the 8th fastest lap time throughout the whole event showing he is up there with the world's best.
Ethan Ojogwu
Ethan Ojogwu competed in the School Sport Western Australia Champion Schools Cross Country today, and has now qualified to compete at the National Championships later in the year. Congratulations Ethan on your 2nd place result today, running 2km in 7 minutes 44 seconds.
St Anthony's Parent Online Safety Hub
Discover the path to a safer, more responsible, and enjoyable online world for our children by exploring our Online Safety Hub. Together, we can join forces and collaborate to empower the next generation with digital savvy and security. Let's navigate this journey hand in hand and make the internet a better place for our kids!
Wellbeing
This year, St Anthony's has adopted a social-emotional learning program called RULER as a whole-school approach to emotional literacy. The program focuses on Recognising, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating our emotions.
A useful tool for practising these skills is the Mood Meter.
How We Feel
To support our children to use RULER skills, we must first develop these skills ourselves. In Monday's RULER workshop, Dr Marc Brackett emphasised the importance of being a Feelings Mentor for our children and giving them permission to feel. He suggested the following free app to help us develop our own use of the RULER skills.
SEQTA Engage for Reports
St Anthony’s School utilises the SEQTA Engage Parent Portal for parents to access student reports for students in Pre-Primary to Year 6 at the end of each semester. If you have not already done so, please log in to SEQTA Engage to ensure you are able to access your child's report.
To do this you need to go to the following site: https://stanthonys.coneqt-p.cathednet.wa.edu.au/ and use your current username and password. This link is also found on the homepage of the school website under Quick Links.
If you have remembered your username but have forgotten your password, please click on the "Forgot your Password?" link and an immediate email will be sent to you. The password reset link in the email will expire within one hour, so please action this immediately.
If you have forgotten both of these, then please contact the school and we can remind you of your username.
Reports will be available from Wednesday 26th June via the portal.
Thank you
