Dear Mary Hogan Families,

As we head into break, I find myself thankful for many aspects of our learning community.

  • I am thankful for the teachers, staff, and families.
  • I am thankful for the community members who made this week a smashing success - with the end of 5th grade climbing, volunteers in many classes, and Everybody Wins volunteers.
  • I am thankful to have seen the 5th graders act in Romeo and Juliet at Town Hall Theater; it was a complete gift to see how courageous they were and how much they have grown over the 5 years I have known them.
  • I am thankful for the preschoolers who offered to include me in their hair salon, for their openness to including a grown up in their imaginative plan.
  • I am thankful for the community member who reached out, despite having no connections to Mary Hogan, to offer new and creative ways she could help.
  • I am thankful for Miss Tricia for her library lunches and poetry club.
  • I am thankful for the kitchen staff and students who helped create a delicious meal on Thursday - and every day.
I am thankful for so much my heart feels full heading into this break. I also think I will be writing a slew of notes to thank others.

Be well,

Jen

November Update from Art

In the art studio, students are focused on exploring new materials and techniques! Kindergarten practiced using scissors, glue and drawing supplies to create collage art. 1st grade tried out mindful marble drawing and created colorful watercolor paintings. In 2nd through 5th grade, the painting center opened and students are exploring and inventing ways to use available materials to create original artwork.

All School Meeting

We had a fabulous All School Meeting, led by 4th grade. They helped us learn about the importance of mindfulness and taught us a new greeting. We heard a poem that traced rights and responsibilities across U.S. history - when rights were denied and when they were given. And, we were challenged to take part in the Kindness Bingo. The bingo board came home with your child(ren) today. See how many bingos you all can get!
