August Events at FSMA

These are scheduled times for families to come together (there will not be structured activities… it is just an informal gathering of FSMAers). You can come any amount of time and all children need to be supervised by an adult.

Tuesday, August 1st 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Monkey Hill Playground

Saturday, August 12th 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Can-Do Playground in Alapocas State Park

Monday, August 21st 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at SkyZone in Newark

All 4th grade students and families are invited to come and learn about life in the Upper School. The event will begin with a whole group session at 3:00 p.m. and then there will be follow up activities throughout the building. Moving to the Upper School is a big deal for FSMAers and we want to support them as they navigate a new grade level. Information will be provided for parents about what to expect, how to support your 4th grader and students will have a chance to explore some of the areas they will use in the Upper School.

Kindergarten through 6th Grade Families will get the chance to meet (or check-in) with their teachers. You will receive an email from your child's teacher a few days before to sign up for a specific time but for now, block off 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. This event is a part of your child's transition back to school and allows them to meet their teacher or reconnect if they are returning to the same classroom. Teachers will be giving out information, as well as things like dismissal tags, etc. You can also bring your child's school supplies (in a bag with their name is ideal). It is strongly recommended that all students/families attend but we understand that summer plans may prevent that... just email your child's teacher if you are unable to attend on that night and they will be sure to send anything home and we will meet/connect with your child on the first day of school.

FSMA returning students come back to school first... and there is a throughtful rationale behind this. Returning students are eager to see each other and catch up with old friends and it is important that we provide an opportunity for this prior to new students arriving. This is also the first opportunity for the older children in the classroom to take on their new role, plan how to welcome their new classmates, help prepare the environment, and reconnect with their teacher.
