FC's September 2024 Newsletter
Back to School.... here we go!
Greetings, Fishing Creek Families!
We are so excited to get started on a brand new school year! We had a great turnout for the K-2 Back to School Night and we look forward to welcoming our 3rd and 4th grade families for Back to School Night this week!
At the start of the year, teachers will work on establishing classroom routines and expectations and will start digging in to new content with students in the next few weeks. We believe the new ELA resource Into Reading will be a great instructional addition to our classrooms. We're so excited to see the growth that comes from utilizing that new program. Teachers will also be doing beginning of the year assessments and will use that data to plan instruction and set-up instructional groups.

Wednesday, September 4 from 6:30 - 7:30 (Doors open at 6:25)
These evenings are designed as informational evenings for the parents/guardians. We recommend that children do not attend, if possible. Enter the building through the building 2 lobby (near the flagpole) and please head directly to your studentโs classroom. Staff members will be present to help point you in the correct direction once you enter the building.
In order to accommodate families who may have multiple students across multiple grade levels and/or classrooms, we will be doing rotations so that you can visit each classroom and teacher.
- Session 1 will be at 6:30 PM
- Session 2 will be at 7:00 PM
Free Lunch and Breakfast
For the 2024-25 school year, ๐๐๐ West Shore School District schools qualify to serve one free breakfast and one free lunch to every student, regardless of their family's economic status. This means ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ student in the West Shore School District will receive free meals!
Any additional servings beyond one free breakfast and one free lunch per day will require payment. Monies may be deposited into your student's account ahead of time. More information can be found below under 'Depositing Money in Your Student's Account.'

We were so excited to welcome many of our youngest SHARKS to Camp Kindergarten! Check out some highlight from that awesome event!
Updates from the FC PTO
The PTO organizes and/or provides funding for many activities throughout the school year; field trips, assemblies, teacher appreciation and so much more! There is an entirely new board this year and we are looking for people interested in joining the PTO.
The best way to get more information on the PTO is to attend a monthly meeting, the first meeting of the year is on September 10th at 6:30pm in the school Library. We will be reviewing our yearly budget, upcoming activities and ways to get involved!

Patience, please....
We work hard to make sure all of our students take the correct mode of transportation home each day. For the first week or so, that takes a little extra time. I (Mr. Wensel) won't dismiss the buses until I am confident we have each student on the correct bus. So, please be patient as the buses will almost certainly arrive after the scheduled time for the first few days of school. As the year progresses, if a bus is going to be significantly late, we will send a message to families informing them of the delay. Our number one priority is keeping our students safe so they can learn and grow.
Learning Respect
Charge those iPads!
It's important that iPads come to school fully charged and ready to learn each day! Kindergartners, 3rd graders, and all new students will get their device at the beginning of the year.

We are also looking for day-to-day substitute teachers. You do not have to have a teaching certificate to become a substitute. WSSD contracts with STS to fill substitute positions. Even if you can only substitute occasionally, that little bit will help immensely.
