Principal Weekly Update to Families
For the Week of April 13th - April 17th
Brief Message From the Principal
Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,
Parents Did You Know:
Title I Reading
Jayhawk Elementary is proud to be a Title I school. Title I is a federally funded program designed to provide additional support to help all students succeed, especially in reading.
Through Title I, students benefit in many ways. These funds support teacher professional development, provide high-quality reading materials, and allow reading teachers to work alongside classroom teachers to support students.
Jayhawk has recently transitioned to a schoolwide intervention program. This means that all students are now able to receive additional reading support and benefit from Title I resources.
As part of the Title I program requirements under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), schools must gather feedback from families. We ask all parents to complete a brief survey to help us evaluate and improve our program.
Please click HERE to complete the survey. Thank you for taking the time to share your input and support our school.
Kindergarten Roundup – April 13th
We are excited to welcome our future Jayhawks! Kindergarten Roundup will take place on Monday, April 13th. Families are encouraged to call the school office to schedule an appointment for this event.
We will also host an informational meeting at 6:30 PM in the JES cafeteria that evening. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our kindergarten program and what to expect for the upcoming school year.
State Testing Continues:
Our grades 3–6 students are continuing their Kansas State Assessments, and this will carry on over the next two weeks. We are proud of the effort our students are showing! Families can continue to support their child by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive at school on time, and are encouraged to simply do their best each day. Your support makes a big difference in helping our students feel confident and prepared.
We are also excited to share some wonderful news for Jayhawk Elementary! Our school was recently awarded a $5,000 Casey’s Cash for Classrooms Grant to expand our STEAM program. This funding will allow us to provide hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of STEAM areas. We are incredibly grateful to Casey’s for their generosity and continued support of our students and school community. For more specific information click HERE.
