Need Something Translated to your Language? Need Something Translated to your Language?

When children see that their parents and teachers are connected and interested in their progress, they feel more confident and motivated to succeed. Strong parent-teacher communication creates a team approach to education, which is one of the most powerful ways to help a child succeed!!

Below are a few great resources to make communication an easier process:

1) Email- Let your email do the translating for you! ARVA's email platforms offer a built-in translation feature. Just type your email in your language and we will receive it in English. Then we type in English and you will receive the email back in your language!

2) Phone Call- We have a company we work with that provides Translation! Just send us a message or email and will call you.

3) Captions in Engagli- Directions are below. This allows the students to have their Native Language on the screen as you are talking

4) Translation Tool Bar- See video are below. This is a great way for students to get their assignments and readings translated.

Adding Captions in Engagli Class Adding Captions in Engagli Class

Why Closed Captions Help English Learners:

  1. Better Listening – Captions help match spoken words with written text, making speech easier to understand.

  2. Vocabulary Growth – Learners see new words in context and how they're used.

  3. Improved Pronunciation – Reading and hearing words together supports accurate pronunciation.

  4. Spelling & Grammar – Captions reinforce correct spelling and sentence structure.

  5. More Confidence – Helps learners follow along without getting lost.

  6. Cultural Insights – Captions reveal slang, humor, and social context.

Follow the steps below to add captions to your students live class sessions:

  1. Accessing Accessibility Settings:

Locate the gear icon (Settings) at the bottom left of the Engageli screen and click it.

  2. Enabling Captions:

In the Settings menu, find the Accessibility section and toggle "Enable Captioning" to the "on" position.

  3. Saving Changes:

Click the "Save" button to apply your changes and activate the captioning feature.

  4. Google Chrome Live Captioning (Optional):

If using Google Chrome, you can also enable its Live Caption feature for classes and playback rooms. Go to the Customize and Control menu (three dots) in the top right corner, click Accessibility, and turn on Live Caption.

  5. Seeing Captions:

Once enabled, captions will appear in a movable and resizable display during live sessions and in playback rooms.

How was your child Identified as EL?

In Arkansas, school districts identify students English Learners (ELs) following protocols set forth by the state. The state requires that new-to-district students complete a home language survey. The survey asks which languages the child learned to speak first; which languages the child currently speaks; and which languages are spoken in the home. If the parent or guardian responds anything other than English, then the child qualifies for an initial English proficiency assessment.

Students who do not score proficient will receive accommodations in the classroom to help them become proficient in English. Students identified will receive language development instruction throughout the academic year. Parents have a right to decline or opt their children out of a school district’s EL program or out of particular EL services within the program. All students identified as EL, even those whose parents/ guardians decline services, are required to be annually assessed on their English proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Students who meet or exceed proficiency criteria in all sections of the English Language Proficiency Assessment may be exited from the EL program. Additional criteria, such as proficiency on state standardized assessments and teacher recommendations may also be required as evidence that EL students have achieved English proficiency. Districts are required to monitor and to provide assistance to EL students for two years after exiting the program.

ELPA21 (English Language Proficiency Test) ELPA21 (English Language Proficiency Test)

ELPA21 testing will be in March 2027. It is a State Required Test that must be completed during the time frame, they assigned us. Please do not plan any vacations during this time.
