SUMMER PROGRAM DESCRIPTION SUMMER PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Summer Credit Advancement (CAdv) Program provides current 8th -12th graders with an opportunity to accelerate eligible High School credit(s). The program is tuition-based and will be conducted via a hybrid learning environment (both in-person & virtual learning required) with the exception of PE, in which students must attend a specific campus in-person daily.

The Summer CAdv Program is a supplemental program apart from the regular instructional school year. Summer CAdv students should have the ability to independently navigate a rigorous, fast-paced course curriculum and self-advocate when needing academic assistance.

😎 SUMMER LEARNING 😎 😎 SUMMER LEARNING 😎

Important Considerations:

  • Session Start dates & End dates cannot be changed to end later or start early. Scheduling camps, vacations, and/or other school activities during the posted Summer Session dates is not advised, as it may interfere with the ability to finish the course requirements by the posted deadline.
  • Student Athletes: Summer CADV Courses may or may not be NCAA approved. NISD recommends that any student athlete with a potential to receive an NCAA scholarship attain their credits through a traditional course, rather than through Credit Advancement. Click HERE for more details on NCAA guidelines.
  • SPED/504: Summer CAdv is a supplemental program separate & apart from the regular instructional school year. Students should have the ability to independently navigate a rigorous online course curriculum and self-advocate when needing academic assistance. Please contact your Campus SPED or 504 Coordinator for more information.

Summer Course/ Grading Policies:

  • Grades are based on a numerical grading scale of 1-100, with a passing score of 70 or higher to receive course credit.
  • The student’s transcript will reflect the final numerical grade(s) for that Session Course and will be used in computing the student’s grade point average (GPA), regardless if the numerical grade is unsatisfactory.

CADV HYBRID LEARNING (In-Person & Online Requirement) CADV HYBRID LEARNING (In-Person & Online Requirement)

Hybrid Learning applies to all Summer CAdv Courses (except PE):

Students are required to report In-Person to their Home HS campus to complete required unit assessments. All other coursework and learning will be done virtually online***

SESSION 1: June 3 - June 17

Summer HS Campus hours: Mondays - Thursdays, anytime between 9am-1pm for In-Person Student Test Proctoring & Teacher Assistance.

*AND/OR

SESSION 2: June 18- July 3 (NISD holiday: June 19)

Summer HS Campus hours: Mondays - Thursdays, anytime between 9am-1pm for In-Person Student Test Proctoring & Teacher Assistance.

Hybrid Learning Environment:

  • Students must report in-person to have all quizzes/tests proctored by a CAdv Teacher. The HS Campus will be open from 9am-1pm during the Summer Session dates listed above. Students do not have to stay the entire 4 hours and are allowed to leave after they complete the required proctored tests/quizzes.
  • All other coursework and learning can be completed online/virtually at anytime on your own.
  • Online platform availability (tutorials & assignments): 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - during session timeframe.
  • Specific Unit coursework must be completed before the Proctor unlocks that specific Unit test.
  • All course requirements must be completed and submitted online by 12:30pm on the last day of the enrolled session. Missing work or tests will result in an “incomplete” & course credit will be NOT be posted to the student’s transcript (Zeros are not assigned for incomplete work).
  • Teacher availability (content assistance & test proctoring): Monday-Thursday, 9am-1pm. via google meets/email/chat & in-person at the HS campus.

CAdv Course/ Grading Policies:
  • Each course has several required tutorials, assignments, quizzes, and tests that must be completed 100% in it's entirety for a student to receive a grade.
  • Incomplete Course: Missing work or tests will result in an “incomplete” & course credit will be NOT be posted to the student’s transcript (Zeros are not assigned for incomplete work).
  • Failing Grade (69 or below): If a student fails the course, they will not earn credit. Depending on the course prerequisites, they may not be able to start Summer Session 2. For example, if a Student fails or doesn’t complete Summer 1- Geometry A, they will not be able to take Summer 2- Geometry B.
  • The student’s transcript will reflect the final numerical grade they earn for that Session Course and will be used in computing the student’s grade point average (GPA), regardless if the numerical grade is unsatisfactory. For example, if a Student earns a 72 in Geometry A & a 65 in Geometry B, those individual grades (72 & 65) will be posted on the transcript. In this example, both grades will be posted to the transcript, however the Student will only receive a half credit for Geometry A, but not for Geometry B. Grades do not average out, they are considered 2 separate grades.
  • After completing the course, if the student is not satisfied with the final grade (whether passing or failing), the student will be able to retake the course in-person during the school year in a regular classroom setting in an attempt to earn a higher grade, if the course is required for graduation. The higher grade will not replace the grade, but will be an additional transcript entry and used in calculating the HS GPA.
  • Granting credit does not imply the student has acquired all of the knowledge and skills that would have been derived from completing the course in-person in a regular classroom setting.
  • CAdv Hybrid students will receive an email from creditadvancement@nisd.net indicating completion of course & final grade.
  • Please refer to our NISD Handbook regarding Academic Integrity.

Technology:

  • Students will need a device to complete their work at home & at the HS campus.
  • Students are allowed to use their own personal devices, HOWEVER, the online platforms work best with NISD issued chromebooks & NISD does not provide technology support for personal devices.
  • Middle School Students will need to return their school-issued device to the MS campus at the end of the school year & will need to check out a new device from their Home HS Campus.
  • High School students can keep their current school-issued device for use during the Summer CAdv program or if needed, can check out a device from the current HS campus.
  • All devices must be returned to the HS campus once their Summer CAdv program is complete.
  • If a NISD device is needed, students will be allowed to check out a device at their Summer HS campus on from 9am - 1pm, Mondays - Thursdays. Contact the Campus TSS for more info.
