Tiger Trot Information and Schedule

We’re excited to welcome you to our annual Tiger Trot Fun Run on Wednesday, October 14th to cheer on your child/children! It is one of our favorite traditions, full of smiles, encouragement, hard work, and a whole lotta’ fun!! Below you’ll find the day’s schedule and a few friendly reminders to help keep the event safe and fun for everyone!

Students will run during their 50 minute specialist period and will return to their regular school day schedule after the run. Mr. Compton will leave a little time for families to connect with their runners to congratulate them on their hard work. Then, students will line up with their classroom teachers and continue with their regular school day.

Friendly Reminders:

  • The run will take place in the back on the south side of the building. Please head directly back to the track to cheer on your runner.

  • It can be difficult to keep track of all of the ins and outs during this event. For student safety we are asking that all students return to their classrooms after their run and follow their regular Wednesday dismissal plan at 2:10 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

  • Please make sure your child wears appropriate shoes and socks. For morning runs, an extra pair of socks/shoes may be helpful in case the grass is wet from morning dew.

Thank you for helping us create a safe, positive experience for our runners. We can’t wait to cheer on our Tigers together!

This is it, Meadowview — our FINAL Tiger Trot fundraising push!

The Tiger Trot is almost here, and our Tigers have already raised an amazing $22,987!

We are just $2,013 away from duct taping Ms. Stef to a pillar outside!! OUR final goal is $30,000, then kiddos unlock the Bounce Houses!!

Can we do it?!

Before fundraising closes, we’re asking every family to give their student’s page ONE MORE SHARE. Text it to a grandparent. Send it to an aunt or uncle. Share it with a neighbor. Post it for friends and family.

Those last few donations add up FAST when hundreds of Meadowview Tigers participate!

There’s still time to:

🎁 Reach the next individual prize level
🏆 Help your grade capture the traveling Tiger trophy
🎉 Unlock another school-wide reward
👩‍🏫 Compete to become your grade’s Teacher for a Day

And most importantly, every donation supports Meadowview students and teachers.

UFLI

UFLI is the word recognition piece to our reading instruction. This is our third year using this highly-structured program. Here are some key concepts and tips to help us ensure our learners build a strong foundation for literacy!

Key Concepts for Parents

  • Science of Reading: UFLI is grounded in a vast body of research on how the brain learns to read, focusing on explicit connections between letters and sounds (phonics).

  • Systematic and Explicit Instruction: Skills are taught directly in a planned, sequential order, with each new concept building logically on previously learned material. This helps prevent gaps in a child's foundational knowledge.

  • Phonemic Awareness: A significant focus is placed on the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words, a critical skill for both reading and spelling.

  • Decoding and Encoding: The program emphasizes both reading words (decoding) and spelling words (encoding) simultaneously, reinforcing the sound-to-letter connection.

  • Irregular "Heart" Words: Words that don't follow typical phonetic rules are taught specifically. Students learn to "heart" the tricky, or permanently irregular, part of the word, while decoding the regular parts.

  • Connected Text: Students practice their new skills by reading sentences and passages that primarily use the phonics patterns they have already learned (decodable texts), helping them build fluency and confidence.

  • Home Practice: The program often includes Home Practice sheets and resources, such as printable alphabet tiles, to help families reinforce learning at home.

How Parents Can Support at Home

  • Create a Reading Routine: Set aside dedicated time each day to read with your child. Take turns reading aloud and encourage expressive reading.

  • Practice Phonics and Spelling: Use the provided home practice materials (K-2) or engage in fun phonics activities and games that reinforce the current skills being learned in class.

  • Focus on Comprehension: After reading, ask open-ended questions about the story (e.g., "Why do you think the character did that?") to check understanding and encourage critical thinking.

  • Enhance Vocabulary: Introduce and explain new words during everyday conversation or while reading together to expand your child's word knowledge.

  • Stay Informed: Maintain communication with your child's teacher to understand the specific concepts being covered and to request additional supporting resources or advice.

  • Use the UFLI Parent Resource Hub: For more parent information and great activities for students check out the UFLI website: https://ufli.education.ufl.edu/resources/parent/primary/

Attendance Tip!

Getting to school on time is just as important as being at school. Research shows that continued tardiness leads to poor attendance. Many of the most important parts of a student's day happen within the first 15 minutes. This is often when they have a time to socialize with their peers, orient themselves for the day, take care of necessary business, and connect with their teacher before the day starts. Never underestimate the power of the first 15 minutes of school!

End of Day Routine

Please make sure your child's teacher has an accurate, up-to-date plan for your child's dismissal at the end of the day.

When changes are needed, please communicate those changes with your child's teacher prior to the start of the school day. We cannot always guarantee teachers will see emails during the work day (as it depends on the activities they have planned with the students).

For EMERGENCY CHANGES, please communicate with the teacher and call the front office no later than 2pm. Changes to end of day routines are difficult for students and teachers. If at all possible please change YOUR routine instead of your students routine.

BPA Shoe Drive BPA Shoe Drive

Business Professionals of America is a high school club and we are partnering with Funds2Org, to collect shoes for a fundraiser. Funds 2 Org will pay BPA a small rate for each pound of shoes and bring them to shop owners in poor areas around the globe to provide jobs and income for families in poverty.

By contributing to the Shoe Drive you can clean out your closets of old used shoes and teach your learners about charity and recycling. The drive benefits BPA by paying for its club fees, it benefits the environment by giving shoes a second life, and benefits poor communities by bringing a source of income to those in need!
