The Call
May 11-15, 2026
Dear Colin Powell Academy Families,
Thank you to all of our families and community members who helped celebrate our amazing CPA staff last week during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your thoughtful gestures, kind words, treats, and support made our staff feel valued and appreciated. We are grateful for such a caring school community.
As we turn toward the final quarter and the end of the school year, please make sure you are staying informed by reviewing all school news, updates, and communication shared from CPA. There are many important events, activities, assessments, and end-of-year celebrations approaching
This week, our students will complete their Spring i-Ready Reading Assessments. We are confident that our students will demonstrate growth and success across all grade levels. We encourage students to come to school rested, focused, and ready to do their best.
I would also like to give a special shout-out to Mr. Davis, first-grade team. The percentage of students performing at or above benchmark increased from 62% at the beginning of the year to 88% at the end of the year, reflecting a remarkable 26 percentage point increase. This growth is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and families working together to support literacy achievement.
Finally, if you have not yet joined our PTA, we encourage you to do so. We are looking forward to family input and collaboration as we begin planning events, activities, and opportunities for the upcoming school year. Your voice and partnership are important to the continued success of CPA.
With CPA Pride,
Principal Lattimore

Directora Lattimore

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we invite our families to share their culture, traditions, and history with our PK–5 students.
We would love for families to visit classrooms and engage students through meaningful experiences such as:
- Teaching students words or phrases in your native language, such as Punjabi, Hindi, Tagalog, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, or other languages
- Sharing the meaning and traditions of celebrations such as Holi, Lunar New Year, Diwali, Eid, Vaisakhi, or other cultural observances
- Reading a culturally significant children’s book or story
- Demonstrating traditional dances, music, or instruments
- Sharing traditional clothing or explaining its significance
- Discussing important historical figures or family traditions
- Presenting artwork, crafts, calligraphy, or cultural symbols
- Sharing information about local dishes, spices, teas, or desserts
- Teaching a simple game, greeting, or tradition from your culture
These experiences help our students learn about and appreciate the diverse cultures that make up our CPA community.
If you are interested in participating, please contact via email nina.lattimore@pgcps.org so we can coordinate a time for you to visit (week of May 25-29) and share with our students.
We look forward to learning from you and celebrating together!

registration must be completed as soon as possible.
To support families, Colin Powell Academy will host an in-person registration support session on Monday, May 19, from 4:00 PM–8:00 PM at CPA. Staff will be available to assist families with completing the registration process.
We appreciate your immediate attention to this important matter and look forward to supporting a successful transition to high school for all students.
