Supporting Emergent Bilingual Students With Multiple Needs
The population of emergent bilingual students in Texas schools is definitely diverse. Students have a variety of language backgrounds, countries of origin, and family experiences with education. Emergent bilingual students are also not an isolated population; they may also be served in other special populations such as gifted and talented (GT), special education, dyslexia, McKinney-Vento, and more. This tool was created to facilitate understanding and collaboration between educators in various departments by providing baseline information on each special population, research-based best practices for serving emergent bilingual students with multiple needs, and guiding questions to encourage districts to establish effective systems for identifying and serving these students.
