Irving Elementary Weekly Update
Week of October 26th
Principal Message
Irving Families,
We have some exciting events coming up at Irving next week, including our Día de los Muertos ofrenda and Halloween celebrations!
Starting next week, Irving will be recognizing Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by coming together as a school community to create an ofrenda.
Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican celebration held on November 1 and 2 that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed away. It is a time for both celebration and remembrance, and the creation of an ofrenda (altar) is an important part of this tradition.
We invite Irving families and staff to participate by sharing photographs of loved ones who have passed away to include on our school ofrenda.
If your family would like to participate, please let your child's teacher know and send a photograph to school with your student. Be sure to write your child's name and classroom on the back of the photograph so we can return it to you.
Halloween is arguably the biggest holiday of the year in an elementary school, and we're looking forward to celebrating with our students on Friday, October 30!
This year, we're changing things up a bit by holding our classroom parties before our Halloween parade. Most classroom parties will begin at 1:00 PM, but your child's teacher will confirm the specific time for their classroom.
Our Halloween parade will begin around 2:25 PM. Students will parade through the building before heading outside to walk around the playground. Families are welcome to watch the parade from outside the playground gates. We ask that families stand along the gates as students make their way around the playground. In the event of rain, the outdoor portion of the parade will be canceled.
Students are encouraged to wear costumes, but we ask that any fake weapons or distracting accessories be left at home. Costume masks may only be worn during the parade.
We also ask that families do not send food or candy for classroom celebrations. If you'd like to send something for your child to share with classmates, please consider nonfood items such as pencils, stickers, erasers, or other Halloween-themed goodies.
After the parade, students will return to their classrooms and be dismissed at their normal time of 3:00 PM.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of Irving. We're looking forward to a wonderful week of celebrations!
