Lutherville Families,

It was great to be back with your children this week. They did an excellent job getting back into routines and re-engaging with their learning.

This week we launch our "Hour of Power" to provide additional targeted math activities and reading time for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in the afternoon on Thursday (3rd) and Fridays (4th and 5th). It was a true community effort to get everything created and prepared and executing in classrooms. We had parent volunteers, Goucher Tutor volunteers, and our Loyola Interns all pitching in to make sure students got the most out of the experience. The students were engaged and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. We're grateful to continue to take assistance in the form of volunteers or snack donations ($ or individually wrapped snacks). You can call school or email smccomb@bcps.org if you can contribute in either way!

On Thursday evening, the Central Area Boundary Study Committee met again to review survey results and input from public information sessions. The Committee ended up voting to approve a map to send to the Board of Education. That map, a variant of Option C called "C2," keeps Lutherville's current boundaries intact. Due to technical difficulties, BCPS was unable to update the materials today, but when they can they will be posted here (all materials are posted on that site, so one must scroll down to "Meeting 4") and you can see an image of C2 in full. The recommendation will go to the Board of Education on Tuesday, February 27th.

As attention starts to turn to spring activities, we are attaching a registration flyer from LTRC Girls Softball. Conveniently, some of their teams often play or practice right here at Lutherville.

In partnership,

-Mr. McComb

Joint PTA & Equity Guiding Coalition (EGC) Meetings on Tues 1/9 and Tues 1/16 from 6:00-7:30 pm in library, childcare provided
For many, the Boundary Study process has been difficult to follow and has also brought forth questions concerning diversity, equity, inclusion and justice. Therefore we have made the decision to combine both the Jan meeting of the EGC and the Jan PTA general meeting to focus on writing a joint letter to the Board of Education to express our frustrations and concerns. We hope you will please attend either or both meetings to learn more, share your thoughts and support both groups. Caliday will provide childcare in the cafeteria. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute thoughts, please kindly email us at luthervillelabpta@gmail.com.

Save-the-Date: Scholastic Book Fair!

Jan 29th - Feb 2nd

Students will have time to shop during their regular library time as well as during evening family shopping hours which will be Tues Jan 30th and Thurs Feb 1st from 5:30-7:30 pm. More details about payment methods and assistance needed to help us run the fair will be included in next week's Lab Report as well as through a flyer coming home.

Getting More Involved with the PTA

Soon you will be hearing from us about opportunities to support our winter and spring initiatives: a game event, another movie event, spirit nights at restaurants, Hop for Hopkins (dance night and silent auction to support Kids Helping Hopkins), Pizza Bingo, our annual Fun Run for Special Education, a plant and clothing sale, Spring Clean Up, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week and a few more exciting pieces. We look forward to sharing the details and connecting with you to make these programs possible!
