A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear PES families,

We have completed the first month of school at PES. We’ve already had lots of opportunities to work together as a community and celebrate our learners. As a school staff, we are grateful for the many opportunities we have to build community

A Kind Word - Our hallways are decorated with all the kind words we wrote about ourselves. We used black paper and oil pastels in art class to write and decorate our kind words. Now every day as we walk through the hallways, we have reminders to choose to be kind to ourselves, kind to our school staff, and kind to each other. We celebrate the kindness we see in our students every day!

MTY Testing - This week, our students in grades 3-5 began the Maine Through the Year Assessment. This assessment is computer adaptive, meaning that after a correct answer, a student may see a more difficult question. After an incorrect answer, a student may see an easier question. As a result, the assessment adapts to the learner and is unique to every student. Students will take this test once in the fall and once in the spring, as mandated by the state of Maine. Some teachers may choose to have students test in the winter to gather data in regards to student’s academic progress.

Dress Up Day - On October 31st, students may choose to dress up for school. This is optional for all students. A few reminders about dress up choices. Please do not send students to school with any:

  • Scary outfits

  • Makeup, face paint, or masks

  • Blow up costumes

  • Props or weapons

School Attendance - School attendance is one of the key elements of student success at school. Regular and timely attendance at school is so important. We really love seeing our kids all day every day, unless they are sick. Please let us know if we can support you in any way. We know students are at their best when schools and families work together.

After School Clubs - We are still looking for volunteers to run after school clubs. This can be a free play time for students after school, or a more structured and organized activity. Groups can be by age level and can be limited to a certain number of students. After school clubs are a great opportunity for students to spend time together in a less structured learning environment. We would also love to try and set up a homework club for students once a week. If you are interested in helping out, or know someone who is, please contact the school office.

Warm regards,

Nina Willette
