This Week in DHS Band and Guard

Wednesday, November 29th

• Winter Guard Student Leadership Team Try Outs, 8 am through 1st period (more info will be send out in an email late Sunday night)
• Color Guard rehearsal for Holiday Concert, 5-7 pm

• Marching Band Practice, 5-6 pm (required for all students attending the playoff game)

Playoff games are required for all band and color guard students who do not have a conflict. Please communicate any conflicts with the playoff game by Monday evening so we can order the correct amount of food.

Students need to bring these items with them to school on Friday.

• Band - long black socks, marching shoes, compression shirt and shorts

• 4:00 pm - Come to band hall, load truck, dress into bibbers and jacket
  
• 4:40 pm - Inspection and pass out food on the way to the busses
• 4:50 pm - Load and leave DHS for Alamodome - taking school busses
• 6:00 pm - Arrive at Alamodome
• 6:40 pm - Pre-game ceremonies
• 7:00 pm - Game starts
• 11:15 pm - Parent Pickup @ DHS

Region audition are at LaVernia HS on Saturday, December 2nd. We are taking two busses to and from the audition. Once enough students are done completing their audition, we will send one of the busses back to DHS. We anticipate the first bus might be back at DHS at about 2 pm. The second bus should be back at DHS at about 5 pm. Students that are auditioning may not wear clothing that identifies them as a Davenport HS student.

Schedule for the Day

• 7:30 am - Call time for percussion to load Rusty
• 8:00 am - Call time for wind players @ DHS
• 8:15 am - Leave for LaVernia HS
• 9:15 am - Set up home base in LaVernia HS Cafeteria
• 9:30 am - Check in begins
• 10:00 am - Auditions begin
• 3:30 pm - Approximate end time for auditions
• 5:00 pm - Approximate parrent pick up at DHS

Students may drive themself to and from the audition with an email from the parents expressing permission. Students may not drive each other.

The concession stand will be open in the cafeteria. Students auditioning need to have a plan for lunch - either bring food or purchase from concessions.

Here is link to the students who are entered in region auditions. Students who earn a chair in the region band will earn a Davenport HS Letter Jacket. The clinic and concert is Monday, December 11th at Davenport HS for students that make the bands.

More information including room assignments for students auditioning will be added mid week once they are released. Warm up is in the cafeteria.

Our Holiday Concert is Monday, December 4th at 7 pm in the DHS Auditorium. All Color Guard students are also performing at this concert. All band students will need to stay after school for rehearsal from 4:45-5:45 the day of the concert. We are feeding all band and color guard students before the concert.

We will be wearing dress pants and school appropriate tacky holiday sweaters. Students who do not wish to wear a tacky holiday sweater may wear business casual attire – dress pants and a collared shirt or a dress that covers the shoulders and goes past the knee when sitting down. No open toed shoes.

Some info about the trip:

• The trip dates are April 26-28, 2024.
• We will be taking charter busses roundtrip to South Padre Island.
• The price for a Quad room is $617 inclusive. That means four people stay in one room. All students will be in quad rooms.
• Chaperones will sign up for double or single occupancy. The price for a Double room is $751 and a Single room is $1,019.
• A $100 deposit is due upon registration.
• Prices may change depending on the number of travelers that register. This did not happen on our last two trips, but it is a possibility.
• Only current band and color guard students may register for the trip.
• Students must be academically eligible to attend this trip.
