A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Dear Fremont Families,
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, the energy in our building is high, and the countdown calendars are officially active. A perfect example of that joyful energy was our second grade music show on Thursday night. It was absolutely wonderful to see our students perform so confidently, and their hard work and enthusiasm made for a truly fun and memorable evening for everyone in attendance. While it is natural for students to start shifting their focus toward summer after these big events, we are staying firmly committed to keeping our classrooms focused, productive, and positive right up until the final bell.
When thinking about how to show appreciation for our staff after a school year, many look for traditional gifts. However, the absolute best way our students can thank their teachers is by finishing the year strong with kind, caring, and respectful behavior toward everyone in our school community. Maintaining our high standards for how we treat classmates, bus drivers, cafeteria staff, paraprofessionals, office staff, and teachers is the ultimate gift of gratitude.
Routines tend to slide this time of year, but keeping a consistent bedtime and a structured morning routine over the next two weeks is crucial. When kids are well-rested, they have the emotional regulation needed to navigate the excitement of the end of the year while staying respectful and focused.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making this a fantastic school year.
Warmly,
Beth Carmody
Principal
Our first graders had an amazing time exploring Susanna Farms! The students got a firsthand look at farm life and met some incredible animals. It was a wonderful day of hands-on learning, fresh air, and big smiles. A huge thank you to our chaperones and the wonderful staff at Susanna Farms for making it such a memorable trip!

May – The Final Stretch
Assessment Updates for 2026-27
We want to ensure that any assessment we give our students is time well spent. Over the years, we have learned that the MAP Growth reading and math tests in Kindergarten and 1st grade have not provided enough meaningful, specific, actionable, and at times, accurate information regarding our students to rationalize giving it three times a year. Last year we introduced universal reading screeners through FastBridge that we have found to be far more efficient and effective in measuring and informing our students’ reading progress/proficiency. This year we piloted equivalent FastBridge math screeners and found similar success.
After an extensive, year-long review we are making the following changes to our assessment structure for 2026-2027:
Kindergarten
ADD - FastBridge Math - Early Math screener (fall, winter, spring)
REMOVE - NWEA MAP Growth - Math and Reading (fall, winter)
Keep spring for one measure to support continuity and longitudinal data
1st Grade
ADD - FastBridge Math - Early Math and Automaticity screeners (fall, winter, spring)
REMOVE - NWEA MAP Growth - Math and Reading (fall, winter)
Keep spring for one measure to support continuity and longitudinal data
2nd Grade
ADD - FastBridge Math - Automaticity screener (fall, winter, spring)
MAINTAIN - NWEA MAP Growth 2-5 - Math and Reading (fall, winter, spring)
As we make this transition, we will begin sending home FastBridge family reports for reading and math to keep you as informed and involved in your child’s growth..
Library Books Due Now!
Please remind your child(ren) to return their library books to the library. We have several hundred books that haven't been returned and they are due now.
MEDICATION PICK-UP INFORMATION
Fremont School District has set up guidelines for the administration and transportation of medications at school. These guidelines have been established in order to ensure the safety and well being of all children.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for picking up any medication at the end of the school year. All medication, including inhalers and Epi-Pens, must be picked up by 3:00pm JUNE 12, 2026. Please make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication.
MEDICATION WILL NOT BE SENT HOME ON THE BUS WITH YOUR CHILD. ANY MEDICATIONS LEFT AFTER JUNE 12 WILL BE DISPOSED OF.
If your child will be attending any summer school programs, please let the nurse know so that those medications can be sent to the appropriate building. Summer school medications MUST be picked up on the last day of their summer school session.
As a reminder, new Medication Authorization Forms will need to be filled out by the child’s physician each school year. Forms can be found on the school website in the Health Services - Fremont School District 79 section.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact the health office.
