Mesa Rattlers
Where Success Strikes!
Dear Mesa Students and Parents,
As we gear up for an exciting 2022-23 school year, our staff is busy preparing for the return of our students. You will be receiving a packet in the mail this week with important information. Please be on the lookout for it. If you have not received in by Monday, July18, please stop by the school and we will provide you another. Packet includes a hard copy of the 2022-2023 school calendar, 7 period bell schedule, and required forms (yellow medical card and Title I compact) that will need to be filled out and returned to your child’s first period advisory teacher by Friday, July 22.
At Mesa, each grade level is supported by an administrator, a social worker and grade level teachers. This allows us to build relationships with our students and to provide ongoing support. Lisa Dominguez and Lorraine Guillen support 7th grade students. Griselda Ruiz and Yajaira Gonzalez support 6th grade students. Elena Ramos and I support 8th grade students. While we are assigned to a specific grade, we work closely together to ensure all our students are supported and experience success.
We also work very closely with the district to ensure the safety of our students and staff each day. We are fortunate to have two security guards supporting Mesa, Xavier Avalos and David Perez. We will also be assigned a full time SRO, School Resource Officer.
Mesa will be moving to a 7-period day this year, focusing on high quality instruction and supports. Our efforts as a staff will focus on continuing to build a positive and supportive school culture for our students. This will include finding more opportunities to engage our parents, families, and our community.
At Mesa, our primary goal is to offer challenging core and elective classes so that our students have a variety of experiences as they as they work towards high school. With the support of the district, Mesa has worked to broaden our music department this year. Please help to welcome Ms. Ida Holguin, Choir teacher from Organ Mountain High School. She will work with Mesa students during 5th, 6th, and 7th periods. Ms. Scott will focus exclusively on Orchestra. We have also added an assistant band director to support Ms. Shearer. We are encouraging all Mesa students to take at least one year of music.
Mesa sports for 8th graders include volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, and track will be running strong again this year! All 8th grade students participating in sports will need a physical. The city will also be running the Bantamweight program which includes volleyball, basketball and football for our 6th and 7th graders.
Student schedules will be handed out July 21 when the students arrive. There will be tables set up in front of each grade level building. Schedules will also be available through Student Vue. Advisory teachers will be handling scheduling change requests on a case-by-case basis July 25-29.
As we begin the school year, your child’s goal in middle school is to get prepared for high school. We need your help as parents to work closely with us to ensure your child has a successful year. We have many opportunities for our students to help them thrive. Be on the lookout for after school programs, sports, and clubs that will be offered throughout the year.
Let’s work together to make the 2022-23 the best year yet!

Mesa Meet and Greet ALL grades
