The Weekly Words
February 22, 2026
At Noble Elementary, we believe that every student has the right to learn and grow in a safe and respectful environment. We also believe that every student has the power to make positive choices, learn from mistakes, and become stronger leaders in our school community. Noble Elementary empowers all students for college and career readiness through AVID’s schoolwide focus on WICOR, student success skills, and a growth mindset.
Noble Elementary & CLC proudly hosted its Black History Month Celebration, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of recognition, learning, and joy. The event featured student projects, art displays, a soul food dinner, and line dancing, all highlighting and honoring Black heritage, culture, and achievements. The strong turnout and sense of community reflected Noble’s ongoing commitment to celebrating diversity, uplifting student voice, and building meaningful connections with families.

Secret Word
Team,
Spring Break will be here before you know it! While a vacation is much needed, missing days from instruction absolutely places a premium on the time we do have with our students before the OST. Do your very best to make each second count and find those hidden minutes and seconds in your day to push student achievement. Push yourself to find 1 more way you can use time to have students practicing, reviewing, thinking, or questioning!
P.S. I have observed many of you using a variety of attention claps all year. The attention clap is key to getting a class back on track, transitioning, or emphasizing a key point in a lesson. For those looking for a twist on the “attention clap”, take a moment to review a few attention getters that may involve a "secret word” for calling the class back to attention. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
Have a favorite attention clap you’d like to share? Reply to this message and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a Pulp Smoothie this week!
Mr. Walker, M.Ed.
Principal
From the Assistant Principal's Desk
Hi team!
This week at Noble, students earned 318 Dojo Points for being Kind, Safe, Respectful, and Responsible, 874 Dojo Points on 2x Tuesday, and 430 Dojo Points for being on time, strong indicators that our expectations and recognition systems are making a difference. We also recorded 6 referrals, 6 lunchtime pink slips, and 14 support calls, and I appreciate your continued consistency in documenting, responding, and following up with families. Please continue checking the Daily Discipline Log each morning, ensuring students assigned to ALC arrive with meaningful work, and remembering that family contact is an expected part of the referral process. I also encourage you to submit positive referrals so we can highlight and celebrate students who are making great choices and contributing positively to our school culture.
Our building attendance remains at 92.7% for the year, and our chronic absenteeism rate has improved from 24.7% to 23.6%, reflecting the impact of your Caring Calls and family outreach—thank you for your efforts. As we prepare for our February Allstars celebration, please update your slides by March 9 at 1 p.m. and let me know if any additional shirts are needed. Continue prioritizing instructional strategies that keep the thinking with students, including strategic cold call, wait time, Everybody Writes, Right Is Right, and protecting independent practice time, as these moves strengthen both achievement and classroom culture. Finally, please continue contributing to the Noble Highlight Reel by sharing photos or moments of excellence, as these stories help showcase the incredible work happening across our school each day.

Vehicle Career Day 2026
We are excited to share that Career Vehicle Day is returning this year during the week of May 18 (exact day TBD)! This is always such a highlight for students, and we are thrilled to help facilitate it once again.
We are reaching out to ask for your help in making this event a success. If you know a family member, friend, scholar's parent or community connection who uses a vehicle as a tool in their career (something other than just driving to/from work ... think construction, public service, transportation, utilities, landscaping, delivery, emergency services, and more!), please consider reaching out to them to see if they’d be interested in participating.
Participants would be asked to:
Bring their work vehicle to Noble's playground during a designated day and time (likely the morning). Vehicles would all be gathered in the playground together.
Share a brief, student-friendly "talk" about their career to a rotation of all Noble classes (about 5-7 minutes each). In 2023, when we last had Career Vehicle Day, it took a little over 3 hours for all classes to visit each vehicle (in case you want to give them an estimate of how long they would be here).
Explain how their vehicle helps them do their job.
If you’re able to connect with someone who might be interested, please share their contact information with Mrs. Ohlinger after you’ve spoken with them, and she will take it from there.
Kindergarten Information Night
Noble's Kindergarten Information Night will be Thursday, March 5 from 6-7 p.m. More details will be released soon.
Kids Heart Dance Highlights
A huge shoutout to Mr. Wright for leading the Kids Heart Dance and helping Noble raise over $3,000! The event was incredibly fun for students and made a meaningful impact; thank you all for your contributions as friends and families, for an incredible cause!
The Kids Heart Challenge is a nationwide initiative focused on teaching children the importance of heart health while empowering them to make a difference in the lives of others. Through this program, students learn about staying active, making healthy choices, understanding how the heart works, and recognizing the warning signs of heart-related emergencies. The funds raised go toward lifesaving research, education programs, medical advancements, and support for families impacted by heart disease and stroke.
Black History Month Celebration Highlights
Noble Elementary & CLC proudly hosted its Black History Month Celebration, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of recognition, learning, and joy. The event featured powerful student projects, a soul food dinner, and line dancing, all highlighting and honoring Black heritage, culture, and achievements. The strong turnout and vibrant sense of community reflected Noble’s ongoing commitment to celebrating diversity, uplifting student voice, and building meaningful connections with families.
A huge thank you to Ms. Threatt for coordinating this outstanding event and ensuring every detail reflected excellence and pride. We also extend our appreciation to Mrs. Boyles, Mrs. Ruddy, Mrs. Nalepa, Ms. Monroe, Ms. Battle, Mrs. Ellis, Ms. Honestie, Mrs. Wynn, Mrs. Jacobs, Ms. Peppler and friends for their contributions and support throughout the evening.
We were also honored by a special appearance from Board of Education President, Gabe Crenshaw, whose presence underscored the importance of this celebration within our broader school community.

Communication Plan - Persons with Disabilities
The District has adopted a plan for communications with persons with disabilities, which is available at the following link: Communication Plan. The plan establishes procedures to ensure that the District's communications with persons with disabilities, including applicants, participants, members of the public, and companions with disabilities, are as effective as its communications with others.
OST Draft Plan/Schedule
OST is right around the corner. Please take a few moments to review the OST Draft, which includes a tentative testing schedule. Your feedback is essential, add any questions, concerns, or suggestions directly into the sheet so we can refine the plan and ensure a smooth and successful testing experience for our students and staff.
Lexia Learning Celebrations
As our students work to strengthen their phonics and reading skills using Lexia Core5 and PowerUp, it is important to begin with goal setting to support focus, motivation, and progress. Using the goal-setting sheet, students can clearly understand their learning targets and take ownership of their learning.
Next, students and teachers can use achievement charts/trackers to monitor growth and track progress toward completing each level. As students complete a skill, they will color in a box on the achievement chart, allowing them to visually see their progress and stay motivated. Develop classroom rewards and incentives to celebrate movement on the chart. Finally, once a student completes a full level, recognize their hard work and achievement by awarding Lexia certificates to celebrate their success.

District Learning Walks
Members of our Central Office and Curriculum & Instruction teams will be conducting district learning walks, and Noble’s visit is scheduled for the week of February 23. This is an opportunity to showcase the strong instruction, meaningful relationships, and student-centered learning environments that define Noble. Please continue to demonstrate Noble Pride by maintaining clear expectations, purposeful instruction, and classrooms that reflect the excellence happening across our building.
Q3 Interim Preparation
The Interim Q3 testing window runs Monday, March 2 through Thursday, March 19. All Interims have been uploaded to the Interim & Benchmark folder, so you can begin your Before tasks now.
As you prepare for Interim Q3, please remember to:
Take the test yourself. Taking the assessment first allows you to backwards design instruction, anticipate student thinking, and start the quarter with clear instructional questions in mind.
Complete Part 1 of the Data Analysis Protocol by predicting performance and noting curiosities.
Please note that the following assessments have been updated:
All Math Interims
Grades 3–5 ELA
Grades 4, 6, 7, and 8 Science
Interim Q3 assessments will be given in Grades 3–8 ELA and Math; Grades 4, 6, 7, and 8 Science; Algebra 1; Geometry; ELA 2; American History; American Government; and Biology.
Grade 5 Science will take a Benchmark during the Q3 window. Please be sure to approach the Benchmark the same way as an Interim by taking the test yourself and completing Part 1 of the Data Analysis Protocol before testing begins.
For step-by-step guidance, please refer to the Before, During, After (BDA) Interims/Benchmarks document available in the Interim & Benchmark folder and on Clever under Assessments.
Elementary Grade Level Meetings
In February's GLTM, you all will have a 90 minute training on how to access and utilize reports within Lexia. Following the training, you'll have 30 minutes to dive into your reports.
Lastly, you all will have 60 minutes to share an instructional practice within Wonders that has impacted writing. Sharing will take place within a small group. For those of you in the Clarity Cohort, sharing will follow a similar format to the small group sharing that took place during session 3 in January!
