January Meeting

Everyone had so much fun painting cute door hangers for Mardi Gras or Easter with the guidance of Sherrie Posey of A Pocket Full of Posey's Creative Designs. We also enjoyed dinner while we were at Las Palmas for the painting.

Event Information

February Meeting

The February meeting will be held at Stacey's house. She will serve spaghetti and meatballs with French bread. Members may bring a salad, a vegetable, or a dessert. Feel free to bring a guest who might be good prospect for our group. Just let Stacey know, so she will know how much food to prepare.

We will be assembling items for women's shelters one of which serves women in the Greater Baton Rouge area (our chapter project) and the other which serves women in the Houma area (state project). These shelters serve women who have suffered domestic abuse and/or sexual assault. Here is a list of items they need, so you can choose what you'd like to donate.

For the local shelter: toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, other basics, small combs, and new towels. These can be travel size or full size.

For the Houma area shelter: TRAVEL SIZES - shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouth wash, dental floss, hand sanitizer, wipes or Wet Ones, hand cream, body lotion, Kleenex, chapstick, bar soap, razors, shaving cream, and first aid kits. They also need these new items for women and children: packaged underwear, small sized mints, night gowns, bras, pens, and notepads.

Other News (NEW)

The state convention is coming up March 13-15 in Kenner. If you can't attend the whole time, you can go for just part of the convention. For example, Stacey and Val are attending on Saturday morning and leaving after lunch due to other obligations. The deadline to register and pay without a late fee is Feb. 12. (See Ellyn's previous email for the paper work or contact Val or Stacey.)

If you are willing to be an officer, please contact Ellyn. We really need officers, so don't be shy about saying which position you are interested in. Most positions aren't very time consuming and past officers are always willing to help.

Sisters Helping Sisters (UPDATED)

We are planning a winter project to help the Capital Area Family Violence Intervention Center. They are in need of basic toiletries and also towels. We are going to fill like new Ipsy bags with sample size essentials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, floss, small comb, etc. The bags are approximately 7.5 x 4 inches. We have about 40 bags that we can fill. The center will gladly take any extra supplies or full size items that won't fit into the bags, so if you prefer to donate full size items or if you can't find sample size items, full size will be fine. They are also in need of new bath towels. We will assemble the toiletry sets and place with a towel at the February 17th meeting. Additionally we are also gathering items as part of the state project for The Haven, a center in the Houma area. See the details above. If you have any questions, call or text Stacey at 225-963-4394.

Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

At every meeting, each sister is expected to wear her Alpha Delta Kappa badge. If you forget to wear it, you should donate at least $1.00 to the "pot", which will be donated to the food bank in addition to donations from members that will be collected in November and March.
