PRAYER FOR PEACE
Father in heaven,
all creation rightly gives you praise,
for all life and all holiness come from you.
In the plan of your wisdom
she who bore the Christ in her womb
was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.
May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness
and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
As we near the halfway point of Term 3, there are so many exciting things that have occurred at school to celebrate. Our school values of Excellence and Love have been very evident across these events.
Art Show
Thank you to Mrs Rigoli for taking our students and their families on an exciting adventure around the world, with last week’s Art Show. The quality of our student’s artwork was amazing, and it was wonderful to see our school community come together in celebration of the students’ hard work in the Visual Arts learning area. From Pint Size Picasso, to Photo Booths and Pizza – it was a wonderful culmination of the work that is undertaken in our Art lessons in Pre-Kindy to Year 6.
Science Fair
Excitement was at an all time high this morning, when students arrived at school to find evidence of an extra-terrestrial spacecraft that had crashed in the school grounds. STEM Teacher, Mrs Randazzo reported to all students at an emergency assembly that she had made contact with one of the aliens, who were very friendly, but needed our assistance. Luckily, their visit was well timed with Science Week, so she set the students to work on different projects:
Kindy & Pre-Primary were tasked with undertaking a “mixtures” experiment and creating the aliens some galaxy bark and ice cream to eat.
Year 1 and 2 students used their knowledge of plants and undertook a gardening task, planting seeds to grow the aliens some food.
Year 3 and 4 students needed to undertake an experiment creating balloon rockets, in the hopes they could work out how to make the aliens rocket faster using the push force of air.
Year 5 and 6 students needed to document the events of today, as well as hypothesise on how the spacecraft worked by creating a 3D model.
The afternoon Science Fair enabled families to join in the celebrations of Science Week and observe a variety of Science experiments from our students. Thank you Mrs Randazzo for all your efforts, and the teaching staff that assisted, also.
Olympic Day
As our students battled it out for Olympic prestige, they also had the benefit of developing many great sporting qualities as they engaged in a variety of different events across the day. Mrs Hesse started the day off with a fantastic Opening Ceremony that illustrated to our students the true meaning of sportsmanship. They also realised that the most important thing across the day was to have fun, have a go, and bring a positive attitude to each task. This was further evidenced in the teachers vs parents events in the afternoon, where it was clear that it was going to be a tightly contested competition. Thank you Mrs Hesse for the huge effort you put into organising this very fun, community spirited day! I had lots of wonderful feedback from families, and I thank those that took the time to email and express their gratitude to Mrs Hesse.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to our Year 3 students who undertook the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The evening, led by Fr Bernard was a beautiful reminder of the power of forgiveness and the peace that this sacrament offers us as Christians in our everyday lives. Thank you Mrs Cochrane for preparing our students so reverently to receive this sacrament.
Code of Conduct – Whatsapp Groups
A reminder to all families that the Class, P&F and Fathering WhatsApp groups have been set up for the sole purpose of sharing information related to P&F and class social events. These groups are not the appropriate forum for venting any frustrations or concerns that you may have relating to the school.
If you have a concern that relates to the education, safety or social wellbeing of your child, please direct these concerns to their classroom teacher in the first instance. The OLGC Code of Conduct can be accessed on the school website for your reference. Families are encouraged to familiarise themselves with this document to ensure that we continue to experience a harmonious and respectful school community.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Mrs McCoy (Kindy Teacher) who was recently awarded a scholarship through CEWA to attend the Early Childhood Australia Conference in Brisbane. Mrs McCoy will be heading off in September and is sure to bring back a wealth of new knowledge to share with our staff and early childhood students.

A morning retreat during this Year of Prayer, exploring prayerfulness in our lives and different ways of praying. Pope Francis has invited us to deepen our prayer life as we approach the Jubilee Year 2025. This retreat morning will be an opportunity to "come away for a little while" and reflect on the place of prayer in our lives, as well as to spend some time praying in simple ways that enrich our Christian life.

NEWS FROM MRS BARFOOT
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
Congratulations to the Year 3 students who recently made their Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a significant and meaningful step in your spiritual journey, and we are incredibly proud of each one of you. By participating in this sacrament, you have experienced God's grace, forgiveness, and love in a profound way. May this special occasion fill your hearts with peace and joy, and may it inspire you to continue growing in your faith and sharing kindness and compassion with others.
MARY MACKILLOP FEAST DAY
Mary Helen MacKillop RSJ, religious name Mary of the Cross, (15 January 1842 – 8 August 1909) was an Australian religious sister of Scottish descent who has been declared a saint by the Catholic Church. She was born in Melbourne but is best known for her activities in South Australia. Together with Julian Tenison-Woods, she founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart (the Josephites), a congregation of religious sisters that established several schools and welfare institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Each year on the 8th of August we celebrate the Solemnity of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s beloved first saint. On this day, we celebrate the important role she played in making education accessible for children in our country. Mary MacKillop devoted her life to ensuring a holistic Catholic education for children from rural, poor families and her impact on Australia’s education was remarkable. She was a trailblazer and a leader who passionately advocated for the education of underprivileged children and children in remote areas where others either would or could not go. For such children and their families, Mary opened a door of hope into the future.
The process to have MacKillop declared a saint began in the 1920s, and she was beatified in January 1995 by Pope John Paul II. Pope Benedict XVI prayed at her tomb during his visit to Sydney for World Youth Day 2008 and in December 2009 approved the Catholic Church's recognition of a second miracle attributed to her intercession. She was canonised on 17 October 2010, during a public ceremony in St Peter's Square at the Vatican and is the first Australian to be recognised by the Catholic Church as a saint.
ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – Thursday 15th August
The feast of Mary’s Assumption is a preview of what our lives will be. At the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed, or taken up, into heaven body and soul. God granted her this special privilege because of her sinlessness and her fullness of grace.
The Church has always believed in Mary’s assumption into heaven. But on November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII focused the attention of the whole world on the Assumption of Mary as a dogma and mystery of our faith. This mystery shows us that God wants every human person, body and soul, to be in glory forever, just as Mary is now. This dogma shows how important every single human life is. Pope Plus XII hoped that by thinking about Mary’s Assumption, people all over the world would develop a deeper respect for their own lives and their own bodies. He also hoped that people would grow in respect for the lives of others.
