Lessons in Living from a 103 year old! (*adapted from The Daily Coach)

Six Secrets to Leading a Life Well-Lived

In a world where we constantly grapple with the opportunities and challenges of modern life, the timeless wisdom of Dr. Gladys McGarey, a 103-year-old pioneering holistic physician and mother of six, provides an inspiring guide to living with deeper purpose and joy in her book, "The Well-Lived Life."

We often find ourselves entangled in the fast-paced demands of our roles, life responsibilities, and societal pressure for success. However, McGarey's six secrets offer a profound roadmap for embracing health, happiness, and meaningful connections, regardless of age.

Let's explore these secrets and their potential to reshape our perspectives on leadership and life.

1. Spend Your Energy Wildly

Dr. McGarey encourages us to embrace life with wild enthusiasm, urging them to channel their energy into pursuits that ignite deeper passion. She advocates for fostering a mindset that allows for personal and professional growth for both themselves and those in their care.

According to Dr. McGarey, “Your soul is on its own sacred mission, housed in your unique and brilliant body, and only you can direct that process.”

2. All Life Needs to Move

Movement is the key to overcoming obstacles and releasing trauma, according to Dr. McGarey. She emphasizes the importance of continuous growth—spiritually, mentally, and physically. We are encouraged to adapt to change, fostering greater resilience and adaptability.

She writes, “Life itself is always in movement, so aligning with our life force means that we must always look for the flow within us.”

3. You Are Here for a Reason

Every individual has a unique purpose in life. Dr. McGarey encourages us to discover our "juice," the essence that keeps us aligned with our life's purpose. It is okay not to know our purpose, as this is part of what makes us human and life meaningful.

Dr. McGarey urges us to continue seeking, discovering and rediscovering our purpose, saying, "Our individual souls are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Our purpose locks us together, creating something greater and more beautiful than any of us could achieve alone.”

4. You Are Never Alone

Leading can be a lonely journey, but Dr. McGarey advocates for the power of community. Cultivating and fostering meaningful connections can provide support, inspiration, and belonging. She says, “Creating good boundaries doesn’t require us to keep people out; it requires us to allow the best parts of them in.”

5. Everything is Your Teacher

Pain and setbacks are inevitable, but Dr. McGarey believes they hold profound lessons. She urges us to view challenges as opportunities for growth, self-discovery, and redirection. By embracing the teachings inherent in adversity, we re-emerge wiser, battle-tested, and armed with newfound wisdom and perspective.

6. Love is the Most Powerful Medicine

At the core of Dr. McGarey's philosophy is the transformative power of love. We are reminded that self-love and compassion for oneself and others can act as potent healers and transformative drivers. By incorporating love into our approach, we build environments that foster and nurture the humanity component that is often so overlooked.

Dr. McGarey's life story and her six secrets for a more purposeful and joyful existence serve as a guiding light for us navigating the complexities of work and home roles. Her wisdom encourages us not only to embrace challenges but to find joy, vitality, and purpose in every aspect of the journey, regardless of age and circumstances.

Implementing these actionable secrets allows us to embark on a path toward a more holistically healthier and vibrant future, echoing Dr. McGarey's vision for a world filled with rich and complex truths that resonate with hearts and minds.

Thanks to our Walkathon fundraising success and continued contributions from Pizza & Restaurant Nights, we are able to provide our teaching staff with conference meals from Jet’s and Jimmy John’s this month! Bauer Parent Club Meeting

Our next meeting is Monday, March 11th at 7:30 PM in the Bauer Library. We’ll be joined by special guests Doug VanderJagt, Superintendent at Hudsonville Public Schools, and a member of our HPS school board. Dr. VanderJagt will be discussing the May 7th non-homestead vote and answering any questions you may have. We hope to see you there!

WHO YA GONNA CALL?

Have you ever needed goods or services and wished you had a directory of Bauer families and alumni that you could go to first? The Bauer Parent Club feels the same! The BPC has created a directory to house Bauer family businesses, trades and vendors. Participants will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date information and we hope this will be a handy tool to connect and support Bauer families. If you would like to be represented in the directory, follow this direct link. Please contact the parent club at bauerparentclub@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.

BPC on the ‘Gram

We’re trying to add a social media presence over on Instagram as it’s a preferred platform for many. Several members of your current BPC board are *elder millennials* so please be patient as we get this rolling! We understand there may be differing views/comfort levels with internet privacy but – since we’re concerned with elementary age kiddos and the internet is a complete jungle – our IG account will be private. (Just like our Facebook group page, you will need to request to follow.) Thanks for following along!

Lost & Found Lost & Found

The gloves are overflowing in the lost & found. Stop by during parent teacher conferences and take a look. We will be donating everything right before spring break so PLEASE take a look and label, label, label!!!

  • If your student will be late and needs a hot lunch, please let us know when you call. Hot lunch needs to be ordered by 10 am.

COVID Tests COVID Tests

Free at home COVID tests are available in the office.

Drop Off Procedures Drop Off Procedures

If you are dropping your child off in the mornings we ask that you are mindful of a few details. When dropping students, please use the entire straightaway. We are having issues with folks stopping too soon and this creates a less efficient drop off. When you are allowed to pull forward, please pull all the way up to the grassy area at the end of the straightaway. The drop off area extends from this grassy area all the way back to the paper gator. Even our youngest students are capable of walking this short distance to the south building doors. Please have them exit your vehicle and head straight to the sidewalk to make their way into the building. Additionally, we close the doors at 8:45 sharp. If you arrive at 8:45 or later, please send your child in through the front/office doors by the flagpole.

Your attention to these details will make things more efficient so THANK YOU in advance!

Volunteer/Visitor Policy Volunteer/Visitor Policy

The HPS criminal background check is required for all school volunteers. In order to complete this request, we ask that you fill out this volunteer form at least 48 hours prior to volunteering. Once your request is submitted, all Volunteer status updates (Approval, Denial or Limited Access Approval) will be sent directly to the building you have selected to volunteer in.

The Hudsonville Public School District has the right to approve or deny your request if your background check does not meet the standards of HPS Board Policy.

If you have any questions regarding the Volunteer Background Check process, please contact our Human Resources Department at 616-669-1740 or by emailing our office at eagles@hpseagles.net.
