Message from Principal Muñoz
Keep Reading – Semester 1 is Almost Complete!
Dear Las Palmas Families,
As we near the end of Semester 1, our goal remains clear: every student reading on grade level by the end of the school year. With one more semester ahead, now is the perfect time to check progress and keep the momentum going.
Please take time to review your child’s Amira reading report to see how they are growing as readers. During the upcoming break, make sure your child reads for at least 20 minutes each day. Consistent reading builds confidence and fluency!
If you need books for your home library, contact the front office. We’ll gladly prepare a book set for your family.
Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey. Together, we can help every Bobcat become a strong, lifelong reader!
Warm regards,

Leading & Learning the IB Way
Engaging in Family Writing
Writing is a skill that is closely related to the learning that they are doing in reading. Writing is also an essential skill that helps students communicate ideas clearly and think critically. At school, we are focusing on building writing fluency and stamina, which means helping students write more confidently and for longer periods of time. This practice strengthens their ability to organize thoughts, express creativity, and develop strong academic habits. During our recent First Friday First Hour session, we discussed how families can support this growth at home—especially during the holiday break.
Encouraging writing at home doesn’t have to be complicated! Simple activities like journaling, writing thank-you notes, or creating stories together can make a big difference. These experiences connect to IB attributes such as being REFLECTIVE and COMMUNICATORS, as students think about their ideas and share them effectively. Writing also develops Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills like SELF-MANAGEMENT and THINKING, which are key to success in all subjects.
By practicing writing regularly, students build confidence and discover there is great joy when we are able to express ourselves through writing. Thank you for partnering with us to nurture these skills—every word written is a step toward lifelong learning!
