Principal's Newsletter
Robin Croteau M.Ed September 19th, 2025
We are three weeks into the school year and have so much going on! I want to thank everyone who contributed to our schoolstore.com fundraiser! It was a huge success and we were able to raise almost $3000 worth of funds; most of which were gift cards and went directly to the classrooms of YOUR choosing.
Open House and the Book Fair were very well attended this week and it was great to see how excited students were to bring families to their classrooms now that they have adjusted to their teachers and new learning spaces. The greatest amount of joy from our students came from the completion of scavenger hunt cards for ice cream. Many thanks to Ms. Hamel and our 8th grade student "scoopers" for facilitating this!
As it is a new year there have been a few changes to our daily routines that have all happened in order to increase safety! Our drop off procedure has been much more manageable for parents, staff and there has been a significant decrease in children straying when travelling from point A to point B. This is of utmost importance as mornings are busy times for all of us! Please remember that the earliest we allow children to dropped off is 7:30 a.m. They will not be allowed into the building prior as there is no supervision. Our new pick-up procedure has shaved approximately 8 minutes off wait time in the rider line in the afternoon when everyone pulls all the way up to the loading area to buckle their children. Thank you for all for your flexibility in learning this new procedure.
I will be publishing my newsletter biweekly and want to remind folks that our website is updated regularly. We are working out the last few kinks in communication but have been populating it in "real-time" which has been a tremendous advantage! I am enjoying getting to know each and every LCS child and have surprised myself with how quickly I have learned names, interests, etc. Please feel free to reach out at anytime with questions, comments or just to say hello!
A Note From The Nurse
We are still waiting on immunization records and physical exam documentation from some of our students. Per NH Law students cannot attend public school without an up-to-date vaccination record OR a completed religious exemption form. Soccer season has also begun and we have athletes who do not have a record of physical exam on file with us. Please send documentation to Nurse Jessamyn ASAP or your athlete will not be permitted to play! Convenient MD still offers sports physicals at a very reduced cost for anyone in need.
HERE is information for the October 1st Flu Clinic for any family interested in having their child vaccinated at school.
Establishing A Baseline
Next week marks the start of our Fall NWEA (MAPS) testing window. Assessments on ELA, Math and Science (for some) will be administered to classes over the next few weeks to establish baseline data for the year. For those of you who are new to NWEA , it is an adaptive assessment that is given in the fall, winter in spring. It's lets us know what skills each student has and which ones they need to continue to work on throughout the year. Teachers were given a refresher on NWEA data interpretation during their first workshop day so that they can continue to use this information to effectively group students and provide appropriate interventions and skill building. Classes typically test over the span of no more than two days over a three week window of time. Not every class will be testing at once due to technology limitations and this shouldn't cause any major changes to your child's daily schedule.
5th-8th Grade Community Time
One period a week, our 5th-8th graders have a NEW opportunity to take on leadership roles within the school that we call Community Time. Teachers can sign up weekly and request students to assist them in a variety of ways. Some teachers of younger grades have utilized students by having them work in their classrooms in assisting younger students with catch up work, being a "reading buddy" , modelling appropriate behavior for morning meeting and assisting with a variety of projects. Other teachers have selected students to help with event set up or break down (like the book fair), changing our outdoor sign, planting in the garden, doing the recycling and helping create bulletin boards. As a small school we value opportunities for our students to engage in different kinds of purposeful work and this opportunity has been beneficial for all.
