SILENT SERMON
As I was reading through one of my devotionals this week I came across one that I really liked. The author told a brief story titled the "Silent Sermon." This may be old or well known so I apologize I am late to the show but it is a simple symbolic story worth repeating with regard to fellowship.
The story goes: A minister was concerned about the absence of a man who had normally attended services on a regular basis. After a few weeks, the minister decided to go and visit the man. When the pastor arrived at the man's home, he found him all alone, sitting in front of a fireplace. The minister pulled up a chair and sat next to him. But after his initial greeting he said nothing more.
The two sat in silence for a few minutes while the minister stared at the flames in the fireplace. Then he took the tongs and carefully picked up one burning ember from the flames and placed it on the hearth. He then sat back in his chair, still silent. The man watched in quiet reflection as the ember flickered and faded. Before long, it was cold and dead.
The minister glanced at his watch and said that he had to leave, but first he picked up the cold ember and placed it back in the fire. Immediately it began to glow again with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.
As the minister rose to leave, the man stood with him and shook his hand. Then, with a smile on his face, the man said, "Thanks for the sermon, pastor. I'll see you in church on Sunday."
Who do you know that is sitting on the hearth? Who do you know that needs to be brought back into the fold? I challenge us to have eyes that see it and hearts that move us to action.
Insulate, don't isolate.
Lead NWA well this week!

WEEKLY WORDS WITH BRANDON MOORE
We didn’t have a Secondary Chapel this week so I have a bit of freedom to share some thoughts I’ve had on my mind recently. One thing I’ve learned about God is that He often teaches people things He wants other people to know as well so, I’m going for it.
I’m going to start with a pretty bold statement and then I’ll explain it afterwards.
I think we have an extremely underdeveloped view of God’s grace.
Think about what God’s Word says about God’s grace:
By grace we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9)
By grace we are justified (Romans 3:23-24)
Grace reigns through righteousness (Romans 5:20-21)
We are under grace (Romans 6:14)
Grace is on a throne (Hebrews 4:16)
Grace empowers us to work hard (1 Corinthians 15:10)
Grace trains and teaches us (Titus 2:11-14)
God is the God of all grace (1 Peter 5:10)
Grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 9:8)
Grace is lavished upon us (Ephesians 1:7-8)
By grace we stand (Romans 5:1-2)
God gives grace to the humble (James 4:6)
By grace we are strengthened (2 Timothy 2:1)
Even this overview is a tiny sliver of how the Bible talks about grace. Grace, as I’ve learned recently, isn’t only a definition of how God is nice to us and gives us salvation, it’s our very lifeblood when following Christ.
I’m going to be honest–historically, I’ve only viewed “grace” as synonymous with “the gift of salvation.” Because of that, I’ve inevitably limited my view of grace which resulted in leaving it behind as I attempted to grow spiritually. In this view, grace allows our relationship with God to start, but has nothing to do with keeping us throughout all eternity.
But according to verses like 2 Timothy 2:1 and 2 Corinthians 9:8, grace is the means in which we are strengthened to do God’s work.
According to a verse like Hebrews 4:16, we draw near to grace and we get what we need from God.
According to verses like 1 Peter 1:13 and 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 there’s a future grace waiting for us that will show up on the day of Christ’s return and then comfort us for all eternity.
All of this makes it sound like grace isn’t just a definition of something we receive, but in some ways a definition of the very presence of God in our lives. The active work of Christ in our life is grace because “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1)
Where Christ goes, grace goes.
My prayer these days is simple, “God, I don’t fully understand grace but I know I need more of it!”
Above all, I’ll encourage you like my friend encouraged me this week: “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus…” (2 Timothy 2:1)
If we want the fullness of what God has for our lives, we need greater grace. And here’s the good news…He’s glad to give it.
GME CHAPEL
Global Mission Experience (GME) Chapel
Middle School: Today, a panel of Shiloh seniors shared their GME experiences with our middle school students during chapel. Students learned what GME trips are all about and how participants prepare for these meaningful journeys.
Secondary: During Secondary chapel, seniors from each trip shared about their experience. It was a powerful time of reflection for our students 8th-12th grade as they look forward to their GME trips during their Senior year.
Here are a few questions to engage with your students:
1. What stuck out to you from our GME Chapel?
2. What country interested you the most and why?
3. What are you most looking forward to about your GME in the future?
4. How can you put missions in your life right now, even when you aren’t able to go on mission trips?
